Does anybody here know if taking off the airbox gives the car more power? I'm assuming since the air filter is more open to the engine bay, it can suck in more heat which would cause a performance loss. But if it were night and the weather was cool, and the intake could get cold air, wouldnt it gain performance? Either way, day or night, has it been proven on a Dyno whether taking the airbox off is good or not? Thanks in advance!

If there are gains...it won't be significant...but it does sound good.

I assume that on the dyno, the car was static

The trumpet on the airbox in the high pressure zone in front of the radiator, plus the compartmentalisation of the air box suggests that Honda may be employing a ram-air technique at higher speeds.

I ran my car with the airbox off in 40 degree weather, and I still could feel a noticeable loss in performance. It does sound nice, but I leave it on.

The only way to get performance out of the open box top is if you cut the hood for some kind of scoop.

How could there be a gain in performance when your air filter is sucking hot air with the airbox top off? You would lose less power in cold weather though. Bottom line there is always hot air under the hood when your car is moving. How much hot air under the hood depends on outside temperature.

Just buy one of these. They're only $1500!

My dyno run with the air box cover off showed a small peak HP gain, but a 10 - 12 hp loss from 3,000 - 6,000 rpm.
