Default tapping noise after the defroster MOD

I've noticed this tapping noise in the last two days.

The weahter is around 12F the last few days.

Sunday night, me and my cousin did the de-activate A/C when defroster mode is on MOD.

I both had success doing that. were able to turn off the a/c when it's on defroster mode.

but then, yesterday and today. I've been hearing this tapping noise from the engine bay. I can hear it when im inside the car.

I can only hear the tapping noise when the car is warmed up at idle. i think it's still there when im driving . but it's not noticable.

the noise is like "tap tap tap" contineously. but it's not loud. but enough to hear it. and it goes away when i shut off the engine.

this is happening to my cousin's car as well.

both car are MY06. my cousin's car has 5k miles on it. mine is under 1500 miles.

this just started to happen after sunday. right after the defroster MOD and the freezing weather also started on sunday.

could the weather causing the tapping? or the defroster mod we did? anybody with defroster mod, please share your comment. Thank you

Mine started doing the same thing just this week. It's been 12 degrees or colder here the past few days. I can't really hear it while I'm looking under the hood, but I do hear it just as you're describing it while inside the car.

I did the defroster mod way back in July when I bought the car and I highly doubt that's the issue.

My 2004 didn't make this noise so now I'm curious since mine is the 3rd 2006 I've read about that does it. Hmmm.

Just out of curiosity, check the front of your engine for the factory engine sticker. You'll pop your hood and look straight down the front of the motor. A little bit to the left of the main pulley at the bottom of the motor is a sticker applied to the front of the engine from the factory (it contains a bar code and the engine number). This can come loose and will flap against the front pulley on the car, causing a 'card in bicycle spokes' type of sound when the engine is running.

I just reactivate the a/c always on during defroster mode.

the noise is still there.

mss s2k. I cant reallie tell there is noise when i open the hood either.

but it's loud enough to be heard inside the car with doors closed.

i will try what 90crvtec had said tomorrow morning. it's just too cold out now.

i live in a apt complex. no garage for me.

again, if that's not the case either. i will have to wait for the wamer weather. see if the noise will go away.

anyone has more thoughs?

i've also noticed i have this. its almost impossible to hear from the engine bay when the engine is running cause there are just too many sounds. but i hear it most when i'm sitting inside the car with the car running, and radio off. it comes and goes. i think i get it more when its colder out. not sure what it is though.
