This year's State return goes to the Feds and still comes up about $750 short.

Ralper: You aren't by any chance a CPA, are you?

As for me, I didn't pay anything in this year and I don't think I'll have to. I get to deduct about $5K in direct university costs, plus I get a cost of living deduction for eight months (that'll work out to another grand or two), plus I had two residences (of necessity) so I get to deduct rent of one for four months (about $2500), plus I get to deduct my tithes and offerings to my church (a few grand). So, when all is said and done (I only worked four full-time months last year - I was in school for the other eight) I SHOULD be well below the lowest taxable income bracket. My wife is getting all of her taxes back as well (she only worked part of the year). Woohoo. My mom is principal comptroller for an aerospace engineering firm and so she does all of our taxes for free (and quickly).

As a matter of fact, you should let a CPA do your taxes.
Actually, most CPAs and accounting firms just run your return through TurboTax before they send it off. I seriously doubt their computer's results would differ from my own.

Mine's going towards a big shed so I can put the lawn mower, snow blower, rakes, shovels, etc. out there and keep my baby safe from any hazzards or accidents in the garage.

Don't knock TurboTax, Woodson. I swear by it (despite their annoying licensing this year). It's also capable of just about any complexity you can come up with.

Surely, it doesn't think for you. But it helps you be thorough and I really like it. If you've got a working knowledge of taxes to begin with, it's awesome.

That said, if you're the kind of person who isn't to sure of himself in this domain (sounded like Kekoa wasn't), then a CPA is the way to go. Also, if you've got a lot of money, it really doesn't hurt to have another knowledgeable (hopefully!) professional help you think it through.

actually my tax return was supposed to go towards new tires for my new rims but I got a suprise today with the daily driver. When I push the brake pedal it sinks to the floor! Checked the master cylinder resevoir and behold! almost no fluid! So it looks like I gotta leak and it's off to the Chevy dealer to get it fixed! Worry not, Iam pretty good at saving money so I will still get my tires
