Nothing compared to the taxes I paid when I bought it. Sales tax on a used car is pure thievery.

In New York we pay sales tax once when we purchase a car. (8% of the purchase price in my county.) Registration is every two years and is less than $50.

6% sales tax on an $11k car, you can do the math. Registration in MI is based on original MSRP...it's about $140/yr for my S2K and $120/yr for my Accord. Plus the no-fault insurance crap which jacks my rates up $250 a year for each vehicle.

Plus your asinine inspections. I don't miss those at all. Although they're not quite as bad as MA...my sister in MA just had to scrap a 92 Maxima 5 speed that I gave to her, my wife and I had been driving it occasionally with zero issues for 3 years. Three shops said it couldn't get a sticker because of all the body rust, apparently it's a "safety issue". What a load of horsesh*t.

The internet sure is tricky..

http://www.ct.gov/dmv/cwp/view.asp?a=802&q=244546

For a new (used) car, looks like 10+5+40+5+25+20+10 if you have a lien = 105

http://www.ct.gov/dmv/cwp/view.asp?a=814&q=245272

Private (Casual) Sales - The purchase of passenger vehicles and light duty trucks (1991 model year and newer) purchased from private owners is subject to 6.35% (or 7% for vehicles over $50,000) Connecticut Sales and Use Tax based on the NADA average trade-in value or bill of sale value (whichever is higher). The purchase price must be written on the Application for Registration and Title (form H-13).
