Default Technical Airbag Question- Please Help!

The s2k airbag is mounted with 2 small T-30 Torx bolts. In the
airbag removal/installation diagram from the Helms manual, the 2 airbag bolts appear to have a small unthreaded rod that protrudes past the end of the threads. IS THIS TRUE, AND ARE THESE SPECIAL BOLTS REQUIRED FOR PROPER AIRBAG OPERATION? I also need help in determining the thread diameter, pitch, and length of the 2 airbag Torx bolts. I also need the thread diameter, pitch, and length of the steering wheel bolt.

I looked carefully at the airbag and steering wheel in my s2k yesterday, and I now realize that they can both be removed in less than 30 seconds, using one torx driver and one socket wrench! Unfortunately, a mechanical puller is not necessary, just a tug with the hands and the wheel is gone.

My purpose in this is to determine the feasibility of obtaining serious antitheft bolts for the airbag and steering wheel because I am sick from reading about all of these thefts of our beautiful and expensive equipment. I also have to park my s2k in a lot of unfamiliar places, so I know my car is a prime target. It seems like I have been reading new posts almost every day about another s2k owner getting ripped off. I am determined to do all I can to help stop this theft situation.

I am also going to PM Rex, who was helpful in providing the dimentions of the seat mounting bolts.

Thanks, everyone!

Anyone have input on this one?

I'll take my airbag and steering wheel bolts out no later than this weekend to measure them out, but I still need to know if the airbag bolts affect the function of the airbag.

I think the bolts you are talking about are called Tamperproof Torx bolts. You'll need to get Tamperproof Torx bits at an auto shop. Cost like $20 for a set of 10 for different sizes.

turbo_pwr:

The problem with the Tamperproof Torx Bolts is what you just said- the bits are available at auto parts stores, and also many hardware stores.

I want to get Antitheft Bolts like the ones we are going to purchase for the seats. WITH AN EXCLUSIVE BIT ONLY AVAILABLE TO S2K OWNERS. That is what I am trying to get, but like the seat bolts, I have to know that other people are interested, because there is always a minimum order.

With the seat bolts, I think the first group buy will be 25 people. If there is not enough interest for another group buy, there will only be 25 bits made of this pattern. We can get replacement bits, though.

I'll post more about the airbag/steering wheel anti-theft bolts as I get the info. Check out the bolts on the thread "For Sale: Anti-theft Seat Bolts" because they will be similar.
