A testpipe replaces the CAT and officially only for "offroad" use so yes it's illegal and the fines are steep if you get caught in CA. Depending on how rich you are running, the fumes are a tad stronger, if you get a NEW testpipe, the coating on the pipe gives a rotten egg type smell until its burned off.

I just recently tracked mine with T1R testpipe installed and on the front straight I was shifting into 4th about 40 yards EARLIER so at WOT this gives quite a bit of punch.

This is what your CAT looks like, notice how little light comes through, so judge how much more flow you will get for yourself.

Cool... for $100 it sounds like a very good investment.
Did some research and seems like Berk Tech test pipe is the only one that will bypass the CEL. Is this true?

I have the Berk test pipe. The cel was off for about 100 miles. Now its on and damn, is it bright! I am now in the process of installing a o2 simulator, electronic. Purchased from summitracing.com. Its by Caspers electronics, part # 104037. Hope it works, That light is damn annoying.. Its like my buddy says that installed the t-pipe for me "Now you've got a $30,000 sports car with a check engine light." Some people can live with it. I cant. Guess I am too manic!! The pipe does provide some gains though. Thats why I am doing what I can to keep it. Otherwise, look for it in the FOR SALE section, cheap!!! Will keep y'all posted.

Did you check the code to see if it was test pipe related or were you just guessing it was?

I went to pick up a test pipe at Berk Technology. They are about 30 minutes away from me. Great customer service. Bryan is a great guy and answered all of my questions.
Can't wait to get it installed.

So what kind of gains could be expected from a test pipe if any?
