Default test pipe w/stock exhaust

well, looking to do a little mod. i've been looking into test pipes for about a month now, but i just need some questions answered. are different pipes going to sound different? does brand/price really matter? i would definitley like to get a better brand of a pipe, but being...well, just a freakin pipe, i'm not worried about the jdm bling. i'll most likely be keeping the stock exhaust for a while, so i'm really not sure what this is going to sound like, smell like. i dont want the car to sound raspy/drone, etc. just looking to get a bit of a deeper sound and definitley some higher notes in the vtec range. i've heard of people have nasty smells out the back, cel's, etc. just looking to see if this mod is worth the money...thanks!

also, the car is pretty much stock except for a k&n filter...yeah...OOOOO

I personally prefer the Megan since it has a small resonator to help control excessive noise/drone.

FYI, any local muffler shop WILL NOT INSTALL YOUR TEST PIPE
or they say they wont

depending on state and shop. a local shop around here suggested i do it on a previous car. ill never say which shop though.

the reason you get a CEL is because the test pipe puts the O2 sensor in a postion to get more hot air than normal and make it read different. you can use the anti fowler trick around the fourms of the the exhaust shop weld a bung on thats longer. if you run catless then the exhaust will smell more rich. its common since.

if you want better sound, then i suggest getting the resonator removed. It makes the stock exhaust sound much better.

I had the megan tp and hated it. after a few hundred miles it colected debris in the resonator and started rattling and you can't get the debris out. then I got another one thinking that it might be a fluke but the second one did the same thing. I'd suggest going with an invidia (there's a few different group buys) or a berk or t1r. just make sure to rig up some defoulers for the o2 sensor.
