I'm getting ready to get ready to think about starting to shop. In any event, are there any OEM accessories that I can't or shouldn't leave the dealer without? I thought I read somewhere you have to have the factory windscreen in order to move to the 7/8 model offered here, but I'm not sure.

Are there any others I shouldn't pass up?
Thanks!

I wouldn't opt for any additional options, since the windscreen is standard for '01. Be wary of dealer-forced options in order to jack up the price; they are famous for this. This is only my opinion; I'm sure others will chime in on this.

The only Honda essential besides the windscreen was the mats, but there are now several better alternatives. Also, I've heard those are also standard for '01.

As for the aftermarket, Rick's console cover comes very close to being essential, and when he produces leather visor covers IMO those will too. And you will very likely want to do something about the horns.

Everything else is a matter of taste.

Here's my opinion:

Factory Windscreen- comes with 2001 US models so you would be set if you are in the States. getting a windscreen of anysort makes the ride more enjoyable. Option 1 is to get the factory mod and Rick's 7/8 replacement. Option 2 is Mingster at Improt Development has a nice ready-to install screen that works great too.

Rear Spoiler, side strakes, and front lip- depends on if you like that look. If you like it, you can either get it with the car, or look online here and see if the site sponsors have a better price (which I believe they do)

Floormats- Wait and get the Muz 3 piece Floor mats which do NOT require that the carpet be cut in any way. Stock mats require the dealer cut through the carpet for a mounting bracket.

Hope this helps!

All of the options can be added later at a lower cost. I suggest you get the car without any of them and make your decision after you are comfortable with it.

None of the factory options are a must, all of them, as the name tells, are only options.

The must have are:
Muz Top well Mat. To prevent scratches on the inner aspect of the vynil window when the top is down.
Muz 1 piece floor mats (the factory mats do not do a good job protecting all the carpet).
Rear window bolster or a big towel, to protect the vinyl window from creasing or scratching when rubbing agaist itself once the top is down.
The wind deflector is a must, but fortunatly is standard in the '01 models. If you are getting a used Stook ('00 model), you will need one of these.

The rest, are only options you can live without.

Buy clean, add what you want (less expensive and more fun if you like to do your own wrenching you can save quite a bit) My first three additions weren't even available from the dealer. Speaker upgrade (dead easy), K&N or equivalent (also dead easy), and real horns (fun if you like to wrench, but not for the novice. As to the factory options I've put in the Windscreen CD Changer and alarm but all were lower on my list of priorities.

must haves:
1. rick's console cover
2. muz mat
3. floor mats- now 3 to choose from on this board
4. rick stickers to cover airbag warnings
5. new horn

woops! none of the above are from honda!!! o.k.- the one from honda that you must have is the car cover (if you dont need a rainproof one).
