Thermostat Removal Basics?
The Honda repair manual gives no step by step info on this, only a picture of where it is and bolts. Looks like I might have to take off the ac compressor to get enough room to take thermostat out. I recall someone having replaced it and said it was a bear to do. Anyone with info on technique.
Thanks in advance.
PS: Due to the inadequacies of the Honda manual, I ordered a Helm manual today.

Also, I'm curious about why you want to remove the thermostat. I thought that it is an important part of the warm-up cycle in a car, and keeps the engine operating at an appropriate temperature. Am I missing something?
Hi Folks,
Removal of the thermostat is not difficult. It must be done from the bottom however. No need to remove any other parts ie, compressor etc. A 12" extension with a swivel aids considerably. Don't forget to drain the radiator first.
Good Luck!

Scott is right, but unfortunately I figured that out before I read his post.
I only had a little time today so I thought I would do something quick, like installing the Mugen thermostat. I should have installed the header, it would have been faster. Two hours later and I am educated.. don

Thanks all for the posts. Just got to them. The header is in and like Pinky said, the engine does run more smoothly. I am pleased. I will try to get the thermostat housing out as described. I was trying to get it from below, but could not see the upper forward bolt. I think I will have to do it "blindly".
CoralDoc, I want to replace the thermostat with the Mugen one I received. Should not be without a thermostat, for sure.

Following Cdelena's advice, I was able to see both bolts and change the thermostat using a hand on either side of the engine mount technique at times. The car runs fine; can't say it's peppier for it just yet, for the headers already made an improvement.
