Default thinking about buying an s2000

hi everyone i'm new here, i'm serisouly considering buying an s2000 to be my fun car/daily driver. i'm looking into getting a 2001-2003 s2000, i want the old motor. i'm looking for a car that i can have fun with and drive hard and still be reliable to get me to work during the week, i currently own turbo jetta that has been my life and $20k of my money in mods over the past few years, i'm sick of having it break and always having to worry about it so i want something nice that's somewhat fast that i can just drive, i don't really need a pratical car since i also have a scion xb, i was looking at a 350z but was very dissapointed in the overall quality of the car then i looked at a g35 coupe but it's a little more than i wanna spend, the s2000 seems like it would make me happy and i've been finding them for $19-23k.
my question is? is this a car that i can drive hard on the weekends and it still be reliable to get me to work during the week?

thanks

DON'T THINK JUST BUY IT! You will not be dissapointed. I am picking mine up in august and I can hardly stand the wait! This is the best bang for the buck in my opinion!

The S2000 is an amazingly durable car.

Not too many cars you can drive to the track, beat the living crap out of all day, then drive home on the freeway!

Awesome.

the scion is pretty much stock, it just has tanabe springs and TRD struts, it's the one reliable car we have i also have a 90 240sx that i was gonna build but i don't have the time or money to take on another project like that, and i have a 92 hyundai scoupe that is just a beater that i will sell and my jetta is just a money pit that i need to get out of so the s2000 seems to make the most sense, well actually the most sense would be sell all my cars except the scion and just buy a cheap daily driver but i like the s2000 idea better

what about in the rain? i live in oregon so the summer is beautiful but it rains the whole winter, it maybe only snows once a year and doesn't really get that cold but a lot of rain, will i hate the s2000 with the top up all the time?

You didn't say if you've driven an s2k yet.

I've only got 7k on mine, a weekend driver, and absolutely no problems. I don't think that proves anything though. I've tried to get a sense from this board if the s2k has the legendary Honda reliability and I'd have to say, I still don't know. Then again my parents had the block on their Accord crack with under 70k.

Lots of threads on rain related handling problems here. Was it the driver, the car, worn tires, combination of everything? I haven't had any problems but I haven't driven tens of thousands of miles yet either. I like the car just as much with the top up as down.

I think your questions, outside of reliability, are more personal preference.

What are you waiting for? You only live once and you aren't getting any younger are you?
(irrationalizations I am very familiar with btw)

You've got the Scion for a daily driver - sell the rest of your vehicles and pick up a nice low mileage 00-02 for low $20s. If you are worried about rain replace the S02s with S03s or some other max performance tire that is more forgiving in the rain.
