Default Thinking about getting s2000 looking for opinions

Hello, I have loved s2000's since i got my license 5 years ago and was never able to get one because it wasnt "practical". well the time has come to upgrade cars and this is the first car on my list!

I have never drove one, only rode in one but it was amazing. i drive a 8th gen civic frequently though. Ive read through all the stickys and really like how this forum is set up. Currently i drive a SRT-4 so forums is a big deal to me. I just have some questions about the car.

As a car overall how would you rate it for the price?
what year would you try to get and why?
i plan on going forced induction so which engine would be a better platform?
what are things i should try to get included with the car?
how is the aftermarket on this car and how is the price on things?
can this car handle some abuse and daily drive fine?

My main concern is speed. My SRT-4 is big turbo pushing around 400hp and will scoot. i know from experience that the s2000 will need atleast 350 hp to be close to what i am at now, can the engine/transmission take that kind of power and what is the recommend way of going FI.

Thanks.

12/10

Depends if you like 8k or 9k i prefer 9k ap1, but if you want a little more torque get the ap2

I don't have fi so i can't comment

what are things i should try to get included with the car?
Don't understand this question

how is the aftermarket on this car and how is the price on things?
Depends if your going to buy a spoon header or intake it's going to cost you a million dollars lol! for real it's expensive for brand name products.

can this car handle some abuse and daily drive fine?
Well i have 70k on mines right now it's an 01 i must hit 9k every chance i get, as long as you check the oil i don't see a problem, everytime i hit 9k the car is telling me to hit it again it's weird

As a car overall how would you rate it for the price? I cant think of a better car for the money

what year would you try to get and why? It depends, if your looking for auto x i would suggest an ap1. I have an ap1 and the car rotates arouond corners nicely, my buddies ap2 will push slightly. If your just looking for a car to DD and mess around in the streets with id recommend an ap2 because of the extra features/torque for driving around town.

i plan on going forced induction so which engine would be a better platform? No idea, im NA sorry

what are things i should try to get included with the car? Mine came with a car cover, tonneau cover, owners manuals etc. If you are talking mods its all about what you want with the car. I.E do you want aftermarket wheels or would you prefer a rollbar. Its up to you, there are tons of unique cars out there, wait until you find one you really like. It will come, trust me.

how is the aftermarket on this car and how is the price on things? Aftermarket is incredibly large, but its expensive to gain power compared to a lot of other cars.

can this car handle some abuse and daily drive fine? I have been bringing mine to auto x an average of once a week, and the only wear im noticing is tires. Oil level is fine, but keep an eye on it just in case.

Your SRT-4 is fast in a straight line, the S is for corners. If you make it into a drag car you'll have lost the point behind the S.

Unless you have some serious track time, forget going FI and learn to be a fast driver stock. More power will make you a worse driver.

My advice, get the S and become a great driver before you add power.

my plans are to get a AP2 hopefully and put I/E on it maybe tune it if tuning helps at all. maybe change the powerband up a bit? but say NA for a year or so before i go FI and shoot for 400+ ill get coilovers and some nice rims in that time.

one of my favorite parts about this car is the handling! im tired of understeer and spinning everytime i go WOT. i am definately going to autocross this car.

are there any good NA mods that are worth the price besides intake and exhaust?

-I will go with 06+, just b/c u can run kpro for cheaper. Most of guys here running kpro or AEM, go search what you will need/cost to run kpro on 06+ and older yrs and AEM pros/cons.

-IMO, save that $ if you plan to go turbo. Putting turbo or SC on N/A motor isn't cheap compare to turbo motor.

-Also handling has nothing to do with spinning at WOT.

-400whp+ is nothing these days. Your best bet is look thru people's mod list and build threads. Ton of info out there on FI section. One more, B guy did hold 700whp with stock block/tranny doesn't mean C guy's S2k will hold that much amount power.

Good luck and welcome.
