Default Thinking about an S2K

Ok well here is my situation.

My parents are willing to give me about 20k for a new car. I am 16. I wasn't really looking for a Honda, but I stumbled upon a thread involving S2000's on a fourm I am a regular to... This got me to thinking that I might want to consider an S2000 for my next car. I have a few car's I am thinking about:

1. Supra N/A initially, then do a swap to TT
2. MR2 Turbo in flawless condition
3. 3rd gen RX7
4. Honda S2000
5. Porsche Boxster

Well I guess what I'm asking is what would you choose...

Also, what mod's are readily available for S2k's? What would give me the largest horsepower gains. Are they fairly easy to work on?

Any other info would be great and appreciated greatly!

Thanks,
Dustin

Turbo swap to a supra n/a can be quite expensive. Insurance on any of those cars for a 16 year old is NOT going to be cheap. Trust me, I tried the supra thing when i was 16 and insurance screwed me. As far as turbo cars go. If you dont have the money to keep them running dont get one. I have a 98' Turbo Eclipse im trying to get rid of after about 25k in upgrades & 400hp becuase im tired of putting money into keeping it running. If your in the market for a turbo car hit me up.

Goodluck on your search. S2k's for 20k can be difficult to find with good miles if your pickey about your car. Keep in mind 20k dosent inlcude tax, tag, title, or your initial first insurance payment.

As far as modifications go. The s2k powerplant is already built so well that its hard to really squeeze anymore power out of it with just "bolt-ons". If your really looking for a big power gain supercharging it is the way to go but only if you have 6k laying around after you pay for the car.

given that you are 16, i'm presuming that you are a new driver. so unless you have lots of experience racing go-karts as a kid, i really recommend you stay away from all the cars you've listed. driving high-powered rwd sportscars is not just a matter of pointing the steering wheel, stepping on the throttle, and go. if you don't know how to handle a high powered rwd sportscar, you can easily find yourself spinning into a guardrail or telephone pole. if you really insist on a rwd car, then start with something less powerful, such as a 240sx and drive it for a year or so before you move up to one of the sportscars you've listed. on the other hand, if you already are proficient with rwd sportscars, then of the ones you've listed, i'd stay away from the rx7 and boxter, unless you have lots of cash lying around for repairs and maintenance. the gen3 rx7 are notorious for being unreliable and so will require frequent visits to the shop during your ownership. as for the boxter, it is designed in a way where it is very difficult for you to do your own repair and maintenance and taking a boxter to a shop will cost you quite a bit of dough. still, i think if you are planning on modding your car for performance, the best thing for a young guy like you with limited funds is to buy a 240sx for less than $10K, drive it for 6-1 2months, then do an sr20det engine swap, along with other suspension and brake upgrades.

Thanks, Ive finally said enough. Im only 19, I work rediculous hours just so i have enough cash to keep it going and then some to play with. Ive finally decided to just to let it go, Get something that will get me from A to B in style and that is reliable. I'd rather get back into modding cars when im older and have money to do it. Also when the scene has died down. No offence but its full of idiots ever since F & F. I was shopping around and saw a s2k in my local dealers lot. Ive always been a fan of them, But when i test drove it I immediatly fell in love. Im now closing my deal on my 01' Silverstone s2k this coming week.

I only plan some basic stuff, Nothing huge. Suspension, Wheels, Intake, Exhaust, and maybe some Carbon Fiber (mmmmmm)

Insert Name: How much are you thinking for your eclipse? More pics maybe? Any accidents? Clean title?

Vtec_Junkie: I am well aware of this. My friends and I swaped a J-Spec turbo MR2 engine into his 91' N/a MR2 and we we're driving it in the rain the second day he got it running and no one to this day really knows what happened but from what he said he lost traction because he downshifted I guess and right onto this guys lawn and into a light pole. Sold the car
I really think I could manage all of these cars because I don't plan on being all hardcore on my car. I just want a clean looking car that has potential. I am not planning on spending million's on my car or bragging how I can take on any Honda/Domestic/Exotic. I just want a car to drive. I am leaning very much towards a Supra. Check it out: http://www.supratraderonline.com/supras/li...ings/l0050.html

Thanks for your time once again,
Dustin

Damn, I wish I had 20K to spend on a car when I was 16. Lucky bastard If I had that kind of money for my 1st car, I would buy a brand new VW GTI 1.8T.
