Thinking of buying
For me, I don't like to be in the S for more than a couple hours. The car is comfy and fun enough for short drives but 3+ hours for me it gets to be a headache. It at 4000 or so rpms on the highway and it gets to be a little too much for my taste after a while.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE this car as much as anyone...just not for long journeys.
My $.02.

Thanks that is the information I needed. As to comfort, I have been used to driving a short wheelbase S-10 4 wheel drive truck on these trips. I think I might be making a step up with the S2K.
I grew up in the muscle car era. After my test drive I noticed that I haven't had that big a smile on my face in a long time.
Moving closer to taking the plunge
Thanks,
Gary

As a young buck (~24) I love the ride of the car and for a few months I was driving from Philly to DC every weekend (3 or 4 hours each way depending on traffic).
The ride is firm and loud, but I don't mind it. The seats are very supportive, but if you like a soft cushy bucket seat, this car might not be for you.
The car has a lot of engine/road noise. I love the car and my dad (~55) likes the car, but much prefers his BMW330ci for its comfort.
I use my car as an everyday car and look forward to driving it each and every day, but if you aren't sure you like how hard the ride is or how loud the car is please consider another car. I can tell you, at the end of 4 hours in the car the noise and ride do start to wear on you.
Did you get to drive it on the highway? The "loud car" isn't really noticable for me until you hit 65+. Test drive it on a highway if you can if that is where you are going to be doing most of your driving.
PS: I have an hour commute each way for work and the only thing that keeps my commute enjoyable is my07. I love the car and have zero regrets.

Enjoy it. Just make sure you have the proper tires. I don't mean this in a "you're an idiot" kind of way, I mean it in a "my dealer put the wrong tires on mine when I bought it used and the ride from Jacksonville to Tallahassee nearly beat me to death.
Thanks again. Yes I drove it in town, 2 lane road, and Interstate. Merged on to the interstate and smoothed out into traffic. Looked down and was doing 103 MPH. Being a retired police officer, I might be using up my favors quickly with this car
Again, compared to the 4 wheel drive truck, I don't think I'll notice the road noise. Besides, that is part of the reason we buy cars like this. I think the fun factor will outweigh noise issue.

Do it, Gary. You'll be glad you did. My wife and I get more enjoyment from the purchase of our S than from any other thing we've purchased excepting "maybe" the house.... and it's a nice house.

I've driven 1000 miles in one day with this car. It's actually a lot more comfortable (to me) than my 03 Celica was over those distances. The only downside is that the tight cabin makes things like resting your arm on your left knee impossible. However, the seats are pretty comfortable even for longer sittings.
Just one tip: go to the Target automotive section and get one of those micro-bead lumbar pillows. Our cars don't have very much support there. It's not an issue for an hour or two on the road, but it improves comfort about 1000% for long trips.
