Default Thinking of getting 2004/05 S2000

I'm thinking of switching from a 2000 328i sport pckg model to an S2000. So I guess my question is composed of several parts

1) Which model year is best to get
2) What is acceptable mileage
3) What are the typical things that I need to anticipate breaking down over course of lets say 3 years? What are the costs associated?
4) Hows the sound system? lol

Thanks guys...

Most everyone on here will tell you to do a search. There's a huge amount of info regarding the questions you've asked, but I'll fill you in on the basics:

The 9k redline AP1 ended in 2003 and in 2004 the chassis code was changed to AP2. 2004 models and up have the 8k redline, reworked suspension and gearing. There really is no best model year, mainly just preference. Although (i think) until 2002 the rear window on the soft top is plastic and is easily breakable. The rest are made of glass.

There are too many variables with mileage on a Honda, if it was babied then its probably good until 300k. No joke. If it was beat on then you might start seeing problems at 80k.

Coming from a bmw you will probably want to upgrade the sound system.

8.2k redline for the 2.2 liter.

At some point the wheels became 17 inches. The seats changed from year to year. At some point the car gained some sound insulation/deadening.

It's an inside joke on the forum. Honda revised the S2000 starting with the '04 model year. It received a 2.2 liter engine in the US instead of the 2.0 in the '00-'03 model years. Many feel the name of the S2000 should have been changed to the S2200.
