Thinking of purchasing a ...
Well, I'm thinking of purchasing a used s2000, but I'm pretty scared of getting it vandalized. Is there any possible way to lower the risk of getting the roof slashed and etc.?
garage the car is a must. no questions about that. getting a hardtop will also help if you're afraid of dumbasses slashing your soft top (like what happened in a recent thread here...so sad...). if you absolutely have to park it in a parking lot cuz you're eating in a restaurant, or you have no choice but to parallel park along the sidewalk, then try to park the car where flow of ppl is best....stuff could still happen because sadly the majority of this world have bystander effect disease and don't do jack when they see someone's car getting scratched/broken into/etc.
but always good to be precautious anyways. if anything does happen, knowing that you tried your best to be careful is always good.
one more thing, dont leave anything in your car. no coins in the cup holder, no clothes on the passenger seat, no pretty lil things handing down your rear mirror, or toys sticking on the wind shield etc. leaving anything in the car could become an incentive for bastards to want to break ur window/slash ur soft top just so they can get it.
good luck mate.
p.s. get the s2k, it's worth all the worries and paranoia

holy cow. are you sure about that price? 8/9k seems a lot for a pair of seats. a manual one at that.
As for protecting the soft top, chain a Pit Bull to the right mirror and another one to the left mirror.
You're buying a convertible. Convertibles have always faced this threat ever since the dawn of convertibles. You're also buying a car that others will envy and hate you for owning. Such cars have been keyed and vandalized since the dawn of nice cars. If you worry about such things to the point of losing enjoyment of ownership, you are better off the buy a troop carrier.
