Default Thinking of purchasing a S2K

I have several friends that have the Honda S2K. I have heard mixed reviews about the tires that are on the car. Most have said that they do not last that long. I live downtown and drive to Clear Lake everyday( 6 days). I put about 25K a year on my cars.

I guess my question is: will I be buying tires every year and does anyone else make this type of commute, if so how is it?

Thanks

rear tires will last about 10-20k miles depending on your driving style. 20k is pushing it too. 15k is more realistic.

Do you live in Houston? If that is the case you may want different tires than stock to deal with the downpours that can occur where you live. Of course you will give up performance for longevity and rain performance. Driving this car with worn tires in heavy rain has pretty consistent results and they are not good. It has been 30 years, but I-45(?) was wild back then, I'm sure it is worse now. Good rubber is a necessity. Check out the Tire and Wheel forum.

I have 14,000 miles on my OEM rear tires, and they have atleast 80% thread left.

I'd say they'll last atleast to 50,000 miles, if you don't do stupid stuffs, like burnouts or driftings.

Yes, I live in Houston, Texas. 45 is about the same as it was then. I do not plan to do any of the crazy stuff while driving.

The later model S2000's (AP-2's) have better stock tires for the rain than the AP-1's, which are notorious for bad wet traction when they are worn.

I usually get 2x the mileage out of the front tires than the rears. It goes like this: new set of 4, run until rears are worn, purchase 2 new rears, re-mount and flip the fronts, run until all 4 are worn.

In the US, AP-1 refers to the 2000-2003 model years. AP-2 are the newer models with different tires, suspension settings and a 2.2 liter engine.
