Default For those with 4.57 or 4.77

For those with an aftermarket final drive gear switch who also went with a reinforced diff housing. Any thoughts or suggestions if it is necessary on a non FI car.

Also on a side note, is it better to buy the componets and let a shop put them in or find a completed rear end and go with that. I am having trouble finding a shop with experience on the S.

Do you drive the car very hard (hard shifts aka chirping the tires between shifts) / dump the clutch a lot?

If you answered yes to either, its prob a good idea to get the reinforced diff plus since your changing the gears you'll save on labor doing both at the same time.

If you can't find a place that has done s2k rear ends before, stay far clear! I'd recommend getting an already built diff from hardtopguy. At least then you know it was installed correctly; its what I did

^^^^ Thanks, I thought it made sence to change it while it was out too. I don't shift that hard but it wouldn't hurt to have it...

IMO its worth changing to the reinforcement housing as its only $400 more. Mind as well when its already out.

I would do it if I could do it over again. It's going to cost me even more to do it after the fact.

get the Comptech, with gears already installed by Rick.
All you have to do,is swap the diff, and return the core.

All good advice! DO NOT take to someone with little to no experience.

Good luck..and enjoy.

I bought the complete reinforced 'pumpkin'. Love the 4.57-R gears, feels like an improved, much better car. I went the peace of mind route and now I am glad that there is instant bite in the gears. I know I am going to want to drop the clutch now. It's been raining lately and it is so easy to lose my rear end intentionally. You always get more value by paying a little extra.
