For those that did, what did you upgrade from after your s2000?
If I ever had to trade in my s2k for anything i would probably try a MR2 Spyder and kswap it. not really keen on porsche maintenance but I am interested in trying the MR layout. Kswapping an s2000 isn't spicy enough for the $$$
I have no intention of”upgrading” my S. It is a dream car for me, and like others, I’ll be happy with it for the rest of my life. I test drove a Corvette while I was waiting for the S to come back from its test drive by the guy before me At that lot. I wasn’t that interested in the ‘vette. It wasn’t s true convertible (T-top) and I knew that I wanted a smaller car. The S fit the bill and came home with me that same night. The S is like a good wife. Yes, she gets older, yet I love her so.

Which year Vette did you drive with T tops? Those were back in the day. Do you mean targa top?
I wouldn't say I "upgraded" as much as I'd say I made a lateral move to an Alfa Romeo 4C....and still I kept the S2000 because it was so similar to the 4C yet so different it made no sense to NOT have both.
My love affair with the S2000 started in 1999 as the first truly affordable race car for the street, finally buying a new one in 2005. The 4C is the same: An affordable, race-focused, no frills track car for the street. And for well under six figures for each there are no two other cars built the last 20 years that can say the same and don't cost an arm and a leg.

at this moment, there are 2436 Ford Mustang from modell year 2010 + for sale on Germanys biggest internet car sale Platform.
And 33 Honda S2000, from wich 50% are in bad condition. "Tuned" and with accidents, some are RHD steering, and so on.
The latest generation Mustang is selling well here, for a American car. You see them often. A co- worker owns one and a friend of me.
I recently test drove a 2016 (911 Carrera PDK) & 2015 (911 C2s - fully optioned 7MT) back to back on nice roads.
After driving the PDK I was like, why does anyone really need a mannual and more power than this.
Then I drove the C2S in sport plus (Rev match on), Sports exhaust. Needless to say I was prepared to trade in my S2k as down payment on on a 60 month balloon loan. Sell my kidneys on ebay, take a cash out refi on the house (whatever it took to get this car into my garage).
.....
After the events above, I drove my s2k home. After 5 minutes back in my car. I was happy to not worry about the Porsche situation for another 4 years (when I can actually maybe afford one).
The grandsport crossed my mind (C7). But I was put off when I learned that some of the discounting is for existing customers only. I saw the new C8 in person. Can't lie, That car is sexy. Wish it had a manual option.

OR some of us thought we were upgrading! Here's a story of my Corvette upgrade 11 years ago...
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-ta...-s2000-666615/
I sold that S2000 for a Factory Five Cobra. I recently posted in another thread the cars I've had since, and here's the thing, 11 years later I'm back here again with my 3rd and last S2000. I also have a Viper GTS, so if I get a certain itch, I can scratch it. But as I also mentioned in the other thread, if I had to sell one of the cars in my garage tomorrow...it would be the Viper. I'm keeping this S, it's the one I was waiting for GPW/Red, it will be in my garage and driven every nice day until I'm too old to get in and out of it.
If you love the S2000, really love, everything about it...there's not another car that will fill that special spot for it, because there isn't another car like it. There just isn't!
Fun story from today...
Beautiful day out on Central IL, sunny and 60*. I went for a drive along my favorite route, back road twisties, and some long straight aways. Before we get to the start of the route it's just regular town driving. I stop at some lights and this C7 Corvette pulls up beside me, older gentleman with, I'm assuming, his grandson. I look over and ask him "how bad is it gonna be"? He laughs a little and says "probably not terrible". I got him off the line 1/2 a car length for 1/2 a second and then he proceeded to CRUSHHHHHHHH me! I mean it wasn't even close! We got to the next light and I was laughing when I caught up, I said "OK, you need to give me at least 3 seconds". Well he did...I was in the lead for about 6 seconds with the 3 second head start...and then he proceeded to CRUSHHHHHHHH me again!! Flew right by me, and sounded damn good doing it!
He was apparently going the same way I was and turned onto the twisties, I wasn't far behind when he turned as there was some cross-traffic he was waiting on. The end of that stretch dumps onto a country road with a loooong straightaway. The Corvette had stopped at the end of the twisties and I pulled up next to him..."I kept looking in the rear view thinking I had lost you, but you were there the entire time, I didn't know those could do that". I didn't catch up to the stopped Corvette, he put the brakes on and waved me forward...because I was on his tail the entire time. It was probably driver, as he didn't want to push it unsafely or past his abilities, but he never lost me and clearly thought he was going to. I had never reached close to the limits, but there I was on the bumper of a car 4 times the price of mine..
We parted ways as he spun off on the straight, clearly I had no shot at keeping up, but I didn't need to. I had a blast!! The sun was shining, the crisp air was on my face, my stereo (upgraded of course) was playing my favorite tracks...it was just purely enjoyable. I wasn't the fastest, I didn't have the most expensive, I didn't have the most technology...I just had my little S and it was plenty capable. I sure wish I could have heard that conversation going on inside the Corvette while we were driving though, I think it would have been quite entertaining.
The whole point of the story was...I didn't feel like I had less, because I was in an S2000. I din't feel like the Corvette was an upgrade, it's just a different level of car. Not once did I think...I wish I had my Viper right now, I'd crush this guy! I was thoroughly enjoying "losing" in my S....the engine singing at 7-9,000 RPM's, the suspension hugging every corner, the scalpel sharp silky smooth downshifts and up-shifts. It's everything enjoyable about driving! It's everything perfect about the S2000, and that's where the car shines.
Good luck finding something better, I wish I wouldn't have spent 11 years looking.
