For those that got SCAMMED by either ebay or forums....
I've also had pretty good luck so far with ebay. Had one loss of $500 which I never got back, and paypal/ebay never did squat about. Be wary of out-of-country sellers. Double check the paypal information of the seller. It will tell you how many transactions they have sold. Also, make sure the paypal account is verified. If they are out-of-country, then you have even less recourse because policies are different. But I've bought and sold through ebay for several thousands of dollars worth and 98% have been very smooth transactions.
[/rant]I also boycott AOL with a passion.... was overcharged one month (normally $100-200, due to global roaming charges, but got a bill for $480.... I suspect their dialup timers didn't detect log outs correctly, and just let them time out). To make a short story short, I disputed the charge through AOL, they basically said piss off, I did chargeback on credit card. They started sending me account past due notices. Talked with their "customer" support, amid threats of credit history thrashing, I reversed credit card charge the next month. kept receiving account due notices. Called them back like 4 times to explain that I reversed the charges already. Sent 2 formal written notices with evidence of chargeback reversal, one of which sent by certified mail and confirmed delivery. AOL still claims they never received anything and has passed this whole thing to a collection agency, which I am still dealing with. AOL wants me to repay the $480, even though I've already paid. They "say" they will refund the money when they confirm the other payment. However, if they can't confirm the other payment as of now, why would they bother to refund anything. they won't be getting another dime from me! [/rant off]
