I just don't know if I want to get the SSR's and have money left over for other stuff or go all out and get a set of HRE's. The SSR's are becoming more and more common, which I don't like, but the price is very attractive.

Just ordered SSR GT1's yesterday from TireRack. They should be here Monday. I got the 18 by 9 for the rear and 18 by 8 for the front. I also got Kuhmo Supras, so it's good to hear the nice comments. I cost $2300 from TireRack, very good deal! Brandon
you have to see three piece wheels in person to understand what a real three piece should look like. most, have the spokes giong only to the rivets, not all the way through tothe lip of the wheel. i think only one HRE wheels does go all teh way to the lip. almost all only go to the rivets. this design makes the rim look one inch smaller. if you place the gt 3 wheel and lets say a racing hart type c nect to each other you will understand what i am talking about. in an 18, the SSR looks much bigger. another example like this that i can think if is any Fikse 3 piece wheel. its so obvious in fact with their wheels that the 17 inch and the 18 inch share the same center piece. THE SAME PIECE. makes a HUGE visual difference when it comes to 3 piece.
just my pennies
HRE and Kinesis just recently started using the centers for the 19" wheel on their 18' wheels and so forth. They call them the R series for reverse lip. I have owned HRE and they are nice. You sure won't see them on any other cars everyday. I recently got SSR GT3 wheels and 99% of the people that know my car think that the SSRs look better. I can honestly say I like having a better tire selection and the SSRs fit and finish are first class.
I have 17" SSR Integrals on my baby, and I don't think the offset is correct. When I ordered them, TireRack claimed all wheels they sell are within +/- 10 mm of the OEM, but there's no way. You can SEE the difference in offset. For the most part, I like the look of the wheel, but they stick out so much farther that rocks are tearing up the rear panels significantly more than the OEM rims.
heres my car with 18" GT1's (they're not GT3's, but you'll get the jist) - running the same 225 and 255 combo that you are enquiring about:
i've lowered it with KG/MM's and there is no rubbing WHATSOEVER.
side profile:
angle shot:
rear shot:
and finally, 3 consecutive rear panel shots showing the tucked-in rear wheels which backs-up my NO RUBBING statement - obviously i have somewhat of an aggressive alignment, but it solves any problems or issues of rubbing
