Default A tip on cleaning the windscreen

I keep forgetting to post this one. After all of the work I've done with lighting up windscreens, I needed a simple way to clean them without scratching. By complete accident, I noticed the packing tape I was using worked extremely well at removing fingerprints, dust, etc.

I use Duck brand Crystal Clear - High Performance tape. Take a long strip, press it firmly to the windscreen, and remove. All finger oils, grease, dust, etc. will come right off with the tape, leaving a surprisingly clean screen. No need to wipe it down and chance scratching the surface, no need to apply any liquids that might collect in the mechanism or the etching.

Sounds almost like a bikini wax for the windscreen.

Interesting idea....gotta try that out.

Carton Sealing Tape High-performance tape features aggressive acrylic adhesive with superior temperature application range. All carton sealing applications for shipping and storage plus label protection. clear

Right brand, but the underlying label on mine looks different. It should have the same effect, though...

I have found that car wax works well, and helps resist fogging until the heater/defroster warms up on chilly days. It cuts through the outgassed vinvyl and PVC's in the wiring that get all over the windows. Car polishes like Meguiar's #7 or Pinnacle Paintwork cleaning or Zaino Z5 also work great. They also make followup cleaning a lot easier. i use Stoner's for cleaning, or a simple and cheap mix of 20 parts distuilled water to 1 part white vinegar.

I will have to try the tape approach.

Then there is the old detailer's tip: on the inside wipe horizontal, on the outside vertical. Then you can easily tell which side you need to re-clean if you missed a spot or two.

good tip. I also use vinegar and water, it works the best on glass.
