Although this topic may have been beaten to death in the past, I don't remember seeing it.

What concerns should I have in using tires other than the Bridgestone S-02?

Has anyone created a list of which tires seem to work well on the S2000 and which are likely to cause problems?

I'm considering the Michelin Pilot Sport or possibly even one of the Goodyear Eagle variants. This would be for street driving with lots of twisty roads. For the record, I currently have less than 5000 miles on the car and it looks like the fronts will be worn out before the rears. I expect to replace all four at once.

Thanks for any and all information on this subject.

I was wondering the same thing... although I was able to hold off 1 year (18,000 miles) before needing to replace only the rear tires. The fronts don't seem to be too bad at this point. I replaced the rears with the same S02's that are OEM thru TireRack.com.

I have Pirelli P7000Z's on my MR2 (225 45 ZR16's) and they seem to handle better then the Bridgestones, they seem to be more stable in the twisties (probably because of the lower profile ratio though) and there also seems to be less of a defined point of loss of adhesion that I've noticed with the S02's. They also perform better in lower temperatures then the S02's. The truth is... the S2000 seems to be designed with 17 inch wheels in mind. In my opinion the profile ratio on the 16's is too high. I'd like to get 17 inch wheels and a different tire the next go around.

Well judging by that comment and the low number of posts you've made you haven't been here too long! Use the SEARCH function because this subject has been talked about many many times before.

After searching past threads going back about 6 months it's clear that a few people have used other tires, but that the Bridgestone S-02 seems to offer the best grip for the S2000. Other than the RE-370, there doesn't seem to be any other tire that is hugely popular. It also appears that nobody has tried a Goodyear tire on the car.

Looks like I'm back where I started. I'll just ask my local tire guy what he recommends. I wouldn't mind giving up some grip for more warning at the limit of traction.

If I choose a 17 or 18 inch tire what will I lose in terms of handling. I read that the BOxster was much worse with 18 rubber than it standard tire. I assume the same for the S2000. A bigger wheel would suit the car though.

http://www.tirerack.com has a great tool that will show you the "ultra performance" tires that are available in the size you need. My experience has been the SO2's are great and the Pole Positions SO2's are even better!

I'm quite suprised that the wheel/tire size is quite modest for what the S2k is, although I can barely tolerate the ride comfort and noise with what it already is.

I've only used the S02, but it really works well with the S2k. The only other tire I may be interested is in the S03's which are available soon. Is anyone out there planning on trying S03's?

Cheers

If it doesnt rain much, and you dont care about how long the tire lasts, you could try the Yokohama A032R's....

They will have lots of grip.
