Default Tire question!

Hey guys or gals, I bought my car back in March 2003. It came with Toyo Proxes Fz4's. Ive noticed that all four tires are the same size. I thought that the S2000 had diff. size tires front to back? Anyone care to explain this to me? I tried the search but didn't find what i'm looking for. The reason why i'm asking is because i'm about to purchase a new set of tires and want to know what sizes to get.(oem wheels).

thanks,
Greg

They are definitely two different tire sizes and it looks like you bought your car from either a clueless individual or a clueless dealer. May I suggest that you visit tirerack.com to learn your choices of tires that are meant to fit this car. Bear in mind, that the sized for the OEM S02's are different than the S03's. Just to make it more confusing.

Thanks for your help! I knew that the sizes were supposed to be different, but wanted to make sure. I guess ive been driving around with the wrong size tires for a while now. Dealer error or previous owner error, I don't know, but very careless. They were brand new when I bought the car. Am I hurting anything by driving around like this? I should have caught this earlier, but was inexperienced until I did some research on it. Should I buy new ones immediately, or ride these out for a while until worn?

Also keep in mind, Bridgestone makes an OEM tire that is size specific just for the S2k. The OEM rear tire is a little bit wider (3/4") than a non OEM tire of the same exact size. This includes the OEM Potenza S02 for a Porsche even though it says 225-50-16.

How worn are the tires?

You could probably ride it out, but if it were me, I'd at least replace the rears for the correct size Proxes.

I've got about 10,000 miles on them. The rears are looking a little worn, the fronts arent worn at all. But, technically, I could rotate the rear tires to the front since the sizes are the same. But I wont do that, I think i'm going to order 2 correct size Toyos for the rear.

Keep in mind that there are variations in a given size depending on the manufacturer. The OEM rear tire for MY's 00-03 has a tread width of 8.5", overall diameter of 24.8" and spins 840 revs per mile.

Depending on the tire manufacturer and the process in which they are manufactured, you might want to run a 245 instead of a 225 for the rear to achieve the 8.5" width.

Don't know about the Toyo's cause their not listed in tirerack.com. I do know that some of the members on this board have gone with the 245 width on the rear.

The Toyo rep/salesperson will provide you with the proper info as the overall diameter is also important to keep your speedo correct.

Sounds like your wheels are not OEM. Check to make sure they are Honda wheels and not some aftermarket.

I have the TOYO FZ4s and like them alot.

You should have 245/50/16 on the rears and 205/55/16 on the front.

These are a great all-conditions tire with good grip and a long treadlife (treadwear 300!!!)

They "talk" to you in corners alot better than the S02, but are not as grippy.

I recommend this tire to any daily driver that puts on alot of miles, but still loves to hit the twisties on the weekends.
