Default Titanium or Aluminum?

How can you tell if the shift knob is Aluminum or Titanium? I bought my S2k used so I can't tell what's on it now.

The aluminum looks "spun" (containing many small lines), the Ti knob is smooth.

I have both: the aluminum knob is very silver in color and the titanium knob is darker and is more of a champagne color. The titanium knob is also much heavier and more expensive.

Unless you see them side by side, it IS hard to tell, even with the above descriptions.

The aluminum weighs 100 grams and the titanium weighs 155 grams. I'd say the titanium looks more like "polished stainless steel" and the aluminum looks lighter and less "deep" than that.

The aluminum looks more "Sebring Silver" and the titanium looks more "Silverstone Silver."

Unless you have a scale, even providing the weights is going to be tough to tell unless you have them side by side.

Did you guys realize that the "brushed" or "spun" look of the aluminum knob is fake? I was looking at a used S2K the other day and parts of it were worn off , it was polished underneath, it was...well, kinda' cool lookin' to be honest (the polished part). Has anyone else experienced this?

Shoot, I really had a good side by side photo before Photopoint was free service.
I will try to reinstate the photo because it is pretty interesting.

Basically aluminum one has flatter metal color but Titanium has bit of goldish and shiny metal color.

Hey you won't have to worry about titanium or aluminum because the new 2002's are leather wrapped

Ok here they are, taken a year and half ago.
These were taken with very low-res camera so the pictures can be much better but the difference you can see it easily.
Left is Aluminum standard knob and the right one is the titanium knob.
Don't want to gross you out but the reason the aluminum knob's shift pattern isn't really black is because of the dead skin rubbed off from my palm from extended use.
Enjoy it.
