Default Is Titanium worth it?

I am new to posting but have been lurking for years. I am in the market for an exhaust on my 2003. My goals are less weight for autocross but more power is nice as well. It seems one of the best out there is the ASM 70 mm single SS or the Ti version. However I keep reading about people with cracked or broken Ti exhausts. Given the expense and the difficulty in repairing Ti it hardly seems worth the 10-15 lbs saved on anything but a race car.

I found a damaged Ti exhaust for sale right now and I thought of using the piping and the adding a SS muffler but that idea also seems out since merging Ti and SS is a bad idea. I have seen folks mention slip joints as an option though.

Thanks. Yes I have been through that a number of times. Did not want to clutter that discussion but perhaps it is best to post it there.

If you're worried about weight, get a lightweight single, Ti or whatever.

IMO, spend the rest on something else that makes more difference to either your lap times or your ego--take your pick, but dumping it all on an exhaust for 10-30lbs is probably a waste of money.

In an S2000, 11.8#'s = 1HP. So, you are basically getting and extra HP for the 10-15#'s saved. Not worth it IMO.

And that does not include the extra repair cost.

If you just autocross then why not get gears? I could see not wanting to drop your top speed if you track, but in auto-x whats your top speed 60-70-80MPH maybe? I think gears would be a great investment. just my $.02

In most autoX's, 45-50 if you are lucky. with gears instead of exhaust.

Some AP1 drivers like to do the whole course in 1st gear (don't ask me why). You can't do that with gears.

I have run courses the whole way in 1st gear before I learned there is more to speed than staying in the power band. There is smoothness during the transitions which can be helped by being in a lower gear.

WRT to gears this car is not just for autocross but Sunday cruising and may in the near future become a daily driver so I have to take that into account.

The exhaust would be my first mod and I would do it to add 5 hp, drop 40 lbs of weight, better sound and looks. I actually do not mind the look of the singles. I am also look at new tires as well which of course makes more difference than anything else. I wish I could put 17's on my AP1 and still stay in A-stock I may just decide to do what I want and move out of the stock classes altogether.

You can't mod. the transmission if you want to stay in stock class.
