Default tonneau cover was stuck

Hi,

Yesterday the weather was finally good enough to make a short trip with the top down. It was still cold, almost freezing, but I could not wait any longer. So I lowered the top, put on the tonneau cover because of the looks, and made a short trip. Didn't feel cold at all . After the ride I left the cover up so that it could settle a bit and before dark wanted to remove it, but the button behind the driver seat wouldn't come loose. I tried everything but it just would not come off the hook .

I decided to let it rest a night and this morning (it's snowing again!) still no luck. Then I took a hairdryer, warmed the section up and finally it clicked off. Pfff...

Anyone had similar problems ?

Also, I found out that you have to be damn carefull not to scratch the paint with the 2 hooks at the back of the cover. I made a small scratch but almost invisible. Any tips on how to avoid future damage ?

Good you finally got it off!!

Are there hooks on the 2006 version of the cover?

I have a MY2001 and there are only small plastic tabs and they are extremely useless, because during driving the tabs always pop out of underneath the edge and leaves the cover flopping loose at the back end...

It's basically the reason why I haven't used the cover for more than 4 years

Take care,

Siepel

You mean you were able to get it on? There's really no way around it, just be carefull not to scratch the paint.

Your description is more accurate, they are not hooks but tabs. Don't know if they pop out, not during the 10 km I drove with the top down so far .

I think they are plastic, but pretty hard material, definitely able to scratch the paint. I am going to stick some small silicon self adhesive buttons under them.

Anyway, putting the cover on looks like it will be a weekend only thing. Otherwise I will have to mess with that thing too often since I do not fancy parking at work with the top down.

Hmm, a bit too overwhelming for my taste. Are they practical putting on and off?

hahaha NO!!

I test fit a veilside tonneau cover on my car and it took almost 20MINS to get the damn thing off - scratched my paintwork too!

Plus, the dont fit in the cabin or trunk if it starts to rain so you are screwed.

It's available for sale, here in Canada.
It's not a custom made,one-off thing.
You can either get it in 1X1 C.F.weave,in fiberglass, gelcoated, ready for painting,an there's a new version,in PVC under development, same material as OEM. ;so ican be folded, and stored in your trunk.
