Too late for recalls?
Sup fellaz! I had a friend who wanted to buy a S2k and so he purchaced a MY00' from a private seller. I noticed that the original owner did not replace the taillights and now it has a orange look to it. My question is should he pay the dealer to replace it since it's been 8yrs ago?? And are there anything else we should look for other recalls on this year/type?? The last 4 of his VIN is 4500. Thanks for your time.
recalls should be covered. also check for the spark plug recall. there might be a seat bell recall for MY00, but i'm not too certain bout that one.
all the rest are tsbs. so if you wanted to get your clutch buzz fixed hansai, you'll have to have the dealer good will the service for you (not likely to happen unless you have a good relationship with them).

This is an official DOT non-compliance recall and it MUST be done free of charge by the dealer. There is nor expiration date on safety or non-compliance recalls, unlike warranty work. (The dealer actually gets reimbursed by Honda. If this isn't taken care of, Honda gets in trouble with the Department of Transportation.) Honda corporate should have a record of what recalls have been worked on for your particular VIN - give them a call then take that info to the dealership. Depending on the VIN, the ones I can think of offhand are seatbelt, tail light, and tonneu cover (I don't recall that the spark plug thing was an official DOT recall.)

Not to nitpick, but I don't think the DOT handles recalls, I believe it's an NHTSA recall.

Turns out we're both right, though - NHTSA is part of DOT...
