too many previous owners?
Hi guys new to the club. Is there such thing as having too many previous owners? If I found something that was really clean and documented does it matter if it had 2 or 3 other owner's? just asking and again I've been reading so much over the last few days great information here great group thanks again

People move cars along for a variety of reasons. I don't view buying a sports car the same as buying a family sedan. Yeah, there are a lot of guys here who use their S2000s as daily drivers, but there are also a lot of people that purchase a car like this as a second car primarily to enjoy on weekends during nicer weather. It's not uncommon for those buyers to come to the decision that they don't use the car enough to justify the storage space and the insurance costs, etc.. So they move it on to someone else. That doesn't necessarily mean that they mistreated the car. As these cars get older then the likelihood that they will have had multiple owners is only going to increase. I wouldn't have a problem with that if the car looks solid.

I would use the # of owners as a differentiator rather than a determining factor. Given two (or more) cars in similar condition/miles, I'd use the # of previous owners to sway the selection. Obviously, there are always exceptions like service history, etc.

A single indifferent owner is worse than a dozen hyper or even normal caring owners. Original owner with a 25,000 mile car that's never been serviced is not rare. That what ya want?
Look at the car's condition and maintenance. That's all that counts. Carsbuggered customized with lowered suspensions, aftermarket wheels, forced induction were off any list I had.
Remember except for the guys who bought our cars new we all own discards. Owner didn't want them for one reason or another.

My current S2000 had 3 owners before me, but the seller I bought it from provided sufficient maintenance documentation. My mechanic also confirmed its condition as well. Car was in great condition.
It's your call: If the sole fact that a car has 2-3 previous owners bugs you, walk away and find an original owner car. I would expect most S2000s on the market to have at least 2-3 owners nowadays anyway.

I was owner #6 on my Evo and it was a well maintained car. Never left me stranded and drove it 80K miles before selling it. My S however Im the second owner, and also a well maintained car. I still went over everything made sure it was where I would like the car to be before purchase
