Default Too Tall - Redux

From the time the S2k first appeared, I've made yearly trips to Honda dealerships to see if, by some stroke of luck and ergometrics, Honda had managed to add another inch or more of seat travel to enable a 6'6" guy, with a 36" inseam, to fit into a Sk2. No luck. Even though the 2004 has reported changes to the interior, I don't think they involve the center console, which is the source of my problem.

First, let me say that I think I've read every thread on this subject in the past -- here and on other websites -- including the lengthy posts where another Honda enthusiast remounted his seat bracket and shaved the inner seatfoam to gain more headroom.

Headroom's not my problem. My problem is that most of my height is in my legs such that, when I'm sitting in the car, my right lower leg is literally wedged between that portion of the center console that holds the radio and the steering wheel.

There may be two solutions, or a combination of the two, which will enable me to fit into the car, and I joined your forum hoping someone may have covered this ground in the past and would know if either possible solution actually works.

The first solution may be simply to replace the seat. If anyone has replaced the OEM seat with a Sparco seat, can you tell whether that gave you any more legroom?

Alternatively, has anyone removed that portion of the center console that houses the radio and the radio? If so, what's there? More specifically, is the area "under" the radio console finished & carpeted, or is it just metal? (I ask because, years ago, I owned an Austin-Healey [yes, I'm that old!], and I removed the carpeting to do some work on the metal floor. I had to drive the car before I was able to finish the work, and the heat that radiated from that metal floor was unbelievable, even on a short [5-mile] drive.)

I apologize for the long post, but I really want a 2004 S2k but I have to be certain that I can actually drive the car before I order one. Thanks in advance for any comments, references to other posts I might have missed, or other solutions you might be aware of.

I feel your pain. Once had a Volvo 740, and my right leg felt captive between the wheel and the console. The steering wheel can be shimmed up a little. This may improve your situation. Under and behind the radio are some wire harnesses. It's not real pretty back there, but the carpeting does extend all the way to the firewall. In MY 00-01, this carpet matches the floor. In later MY's it is a dark red felt extension of the vinyl center console cover.

May be a combination of the seat lowering mod and the steering wheel shim mod would work for you. Then you would not have to screw with the console.

You can get a smaller aftermarket steering. That should also free up some leg room.
