Default Took an AP1 for a spin today..

So yeah..might look into pullin the trigger on wed if the insurance isn't to high and I can get my payments where I want em

Its a berlina black 2002 AP1 with about 52k on the ODO and goin for about $16k..gonna try to talk em down since the car has some minor imperfections (a piece on the arm rest in the top corner looks like its been chipped off by something) and it didn't have a tanau (sp?) cover...and its not certified lol sounds like a beater but thats all that was wrong..otherwise the car was pretty much flawless.

Hit vtech a couple of times and i was in love

So i might be saying bye bye to my 07 tC and hello to a 02 S2k by the end of the week.

BTW this is at a honda dealer, any advice on talkin em down? gonna see if i can get to as close (if not lower) to 14k as possible.

You can try bringing in the kbb price. which is 13-15k. Depends on how long they have had the car. Both cars i have purchased (rsx-s and s2000) i have gotten for fair private party kbb price and both from dealers. They may argue that its from a dealer so you have more security ask if they are offering a warranty if they say no then ask what kinda of security. Even then they may not come off it. I was looking at an 04 with 50k miles they were asking 16.9k for it i get their and its hail damaged over the entire body of the car sever curb rash and the seats weren't in good shape at all. None of this was listed on the add and when i get their they would not budge off 16.9k.

there are cheaper ones with the same mileage out there. just depends on how fair you are willing to drive to get it. check craigslist. dealers like to list on their with cheaper prices then advertised if you were to walk in. you could also buy from a private seller that has all records. good luck on your search

well the car was actually listed online at auto trader and its been on the lot for at least 3 weeks to a month now. THe seats show a little bit of wear but they aren't tearing or anything like that. If I can't get the car no harm done, i don't need an S yet anyway..i just have this opportunity i and i'm gonna play my hand..if i have to fold then oh well...keep my tC for a little while and buy an S another day =)

thanks for the advice so far guys!

anymore input?

The fact that you aren't attached to this car (which is a good thing) means that you can throw your best offer on the table after playing the game for a little bit and let them take it or leave it.

If they don't bite, just walk. That may make them say "Wait!", but if not, like you said, no harm done.

I wouldn't think you have any real concerns otherwise.

FWIW my AP1 has that chip on there as well. If that really is all thats wrong with it then it sounds like a pretty clean car, You wont miss the tonneau cover and if you do, they are cheap to buy used. I would probably talk them down a bit on price, but really I wouldn't hate to spend that if its a really good example of a used car.

i bought my 01 back in april for 12.9k. had 38k on the odo, and was in good shape. two minor dents in the paint (only visible in the right conditions) and the bumper plug on the front was chipped ($3.50 for new ones) a few scratches on the center console, but nothing major. this particular dealer had the car for almost a year. first drove it in feb. when they were asking 21.9k. wanted a different color so i waited, but when i saw it in the add for 14.9k, i couldnt pass it up. got there, talked 'em down a few more G's, and drove her home.

sorry for the long story, but just shows you what can be done. also, might try and talk to the other sales men or peak at thier sales board to see how business has been. if he's been slow, he'll be more willing to make a sale just to sell something.

How much trade are they offering you? Depending on the amount of trade they are giving it may be in your best interest to just wait sell your car private party and get and different s2k (or the same if they still have it.) Because you could probably find one like that around 14k and probably get 2k or more out of a good car if you sell it private party. Your looking at 4k in potential savings.
