Default Top is it Auto?

I was wondering the dealer told me that the Convertible top is automatic is this true?

- yes its automatic, you have to hold a button down though...

Yes it's automatic, but you have to unhook two clips before you lower the top. So I guess it's semi-automatic.

It is not an automatic top like those found in a Mercedes SLK where you only have to push a button and the top folds backwards automatically.

You must first manually unlatch 2 clamps, one on either side of the windshield header, and then hold the top switch until the top has folded down (or up). Thus, it is a powered top, but not an automatic one.

In all cases with contemporary cars, the handbrake must be on and the car stopped (or nearly so) for the top to be moved up or down.

Some time ago there was a group buy on a device to make your windows or top go down with one click. I bought some but only installed the roof one. I just hit the switch once and down it goes. Very nice!

yes, s2ki member emc2 sells the autoloc units for $25 each to make the top go down with 1 touch.

I just received the December issue of R&T in the mail this afternoon. Their "first impression" test of the Boxster update states that the roof can be raised/lowered at speeds up to 30mph.
