top boot cover mod
I have been thinking of doing a mod to the boot cover at the attachment points that is a pain . Some things that have run thru my mind is industrial velcro, snapes (miata type)
lace locks (two pieces of laces from both points run laces thru
boot and lace lock down lace to secure boot .
Anyone else come up with something (please provide pics)
Maybe there is something aftermarket .PLEASE SHARE

You just have to get use to it and find a best comfortable way to put them in. I use to have the same issue now I have found a way to put it in right fast. I cant explain it in words..... if you are local here I can help you, LOL!

#1. I think the convertible top "boot" should be fastened with OEM clips because weighing in a aprox 8 +- pounds, if velcro would loosen anywhere< I think it would "rip off", and you would lose it or it would get scrtched or wrecked from hitting the street.
#2. The reason you are having trouble apparently is that you have only used "boot" 1 to 2 times It takes a little prctice to really get the knack to it. I got the knack after installing it 6 or more times. I agree, it is not convienent to install, but if you take the car to meet or picnic, it really does look cool with boot on!
#3. The boot is suseptable to maring or scatching, so be careful how or where you store it!

I removed the two posts in the middle, and now have only 4 snaps that attach the boot to the car on my '00. (Two on elastic straps and two at the corners.) I found the middle two snaps were, for me at least, very difficult to unfasten. I ended up carrying a modified trim clip tool in the trunk for the two snaps in the middle before I removed the posts.
I put a couple of trim clips for 3/8" or 10mm holes in the holes where the posts used to be. One of the nuts fell down where the spare tire lives, the other I retrieved by removing the carpet on the other side.
'02 and later models, because of the glass window, only have the four clips, and have plastic plugs in the holes in the body where the middle two posts were on the earlier models.

Yep, '02s and '03s only have 4 snaps - two in the back and two on the sides. I can put mine on in about 30 seconds now.
Here's a hint - twist the straps before snapping them into place, that will keep the straps from vibrating and making a racket at speed.

I have no problems with my 6 snaps on my "01 boot. It takes me about ahlf the time to put it on as to taking it off and removal is done in less than 30 seconds. I even had a time when it started to rain and I jumped out and got the boot off and top up in under a minute.
Believe me, the more you use it, the easier it is (especially with only 4 snaps). Practice! Practice! Practice!
