Anyone got any strong recommendations or preferences for convertible top cleaners. Most of the stuff I've read says that the Porsche stuff is the best. Any comments?

I've not used the Porsche top cleaner, but I hear that people like it here.

I use the Mother's Top Cleaner. It is available at your local auto parts haus. I also bought a very soft bristle brush to use to wash the top. Don't press hard on the top when you clean it, that can stretch the top material and lead to sagging.

The Mother's stuff is made for PVC tops, which is what the S2000 top is made out of...

And for the hard to remove spot stains, use 'Amazing Roll-off' spray. It was originally made for cleaning canvas boat sails.

Greg- you say our top is PVC. I've been told it is fabric/canvas/nylon. I know there are different types of cleaners for fabric vs. nylon tops. Which is ours? Isn't it essentially the same as Porsche, BMW, etc?

No, it's a poly-vinyl chloride top. And the cleaners you need to use are specially made for PVC material. I don't know damage would ensue if you used a cleaner for a cloth top or vice versa, but get one that is made for PVC material.

I've found Simple Green to be a great spot cleaner for bird poop or other small stains. I've got a dedicated toothbrush for this purpose. I haven't had to clean the entire top yet; it still looks as black as it did the day I took delivery.

I used the Porsche cleaner and to tell the truth I didn't notice much of a difference. It didn't seem to remove the nastier stains, altough maybe the concentration I used was too weak.

Anyone tried the Porsche protectant?
