Like I said, under the right conditions, 50 degrees can be "near freezing" temps.
65 degree arizona "winter" cracked my rear window.

I opened the top yesterday and it was 29 deg. and it was fine. However my car was parked in the sun and I pushed on the plastic window to check it was soft and pliable before folding the top.

So I do think its exactly as xviper said...its all relative.

My take is that the plastic rear window degrades over time, mostly in proportion to the amount and intensity of sunlight it takes. Eventually most will break because the plastic is shot, not necessarily due to operation of the top at a low temp.
Same thing goes for the top except that you can use stuff like Raggtop to slow the degrading of the vinyl. While the boot cover is a pain it does keep the sun off the top and window.

I don't like the way the top folds up at cooler temps and I generally don't operate it under 50 degF. My Miata manual said not to operate that top under 42 degF and that seems about right lower limit for this car as well.

And it all depends on how well taken care of the top and window is. A total lack of maintenance can result is a destroyed top and window even in warm climates. Remember, the sun's UV radiation is one of the top's worst enemies.

I'm more concerned with getting the top back up. If the top's up, you can run the car with the heater on, get it nice and toasty to get it down. But then what - get a blow dryer out and heat up the top until it's (hopefully) warm enough or just wait until a warm day or spring to put it back up?

But I do love to cruise around on a frigid, sunny day with the top down.

The glass window or top isn't affected by the cold like the plastic window is, right?

This, of course, is your choice. But know that along with this choice, you have also chosen to take some risks. Personally, I "choose" to not use my top when the weather gets cool or the very least, I operate it with some common sense like lifting it or lowering it in stages, with a bit of time for the top to "catch up" before moving it some more. This is a very small price to pay if you "choose" to ignore Honda's printed recommendations.

The whole top is PLASTIC. Don't think that just because you have a glass window that you can ignore Honda's warning in the owner's manual. Honda has covered their asses on this. The rest is your "choice".
