Default Top down on the highway

i'm new to the s2k scene, and this is my first ever convertible as well
but having had some rock chips on paint and windshield on my other cars just recently, i was wondering how safe it is to drive on the highway with your top down?
any horror stories of being hit with anything?
or am i just paranoid and should just drop the top and enjoy?

Enjoy it. Don't follow others too close. I've never gotten hit on the face but if you keep your arm out the window you might feel a pebble or something occasionally.

Throw on some I once got a really small pebble shot into my eye while driving (a jeep). It was probably the least enjoyable experience I've ever had.

Don't drive behind big tall trucks. I got a dust attack once and I had to clean the whole interior
When driving on highway, roll the windows back up (more like you should no matter what car you drive). I'm sure you have had experience with rocks hitting the side of the windows before on the highway.. You don't want that to be right in your face.

Just invest in a pair of wrap around sunglasses..stay away from aviators that leave the sides exposed.

This.

If you are worried about flying objects, don't be. Small pebble may make it into the cabin every once in a while, but that is about it.

My S2K is my first convertible too... Just remember to secure whatever papers you might have in the car . First time with the top down I nearly had to stop because I had the title on the passenger seat.

I have an interesting observation on this topic....

I was driving my S at interstate speeds when I saw a box spring strapped to the bed of a ford ranger.

It wiggled, it wobbled... then woosh! Up in the air it went, with me following behind with the top down.

So... wait.... wait... see where & how its going to land while applying the brakes... then swerve to miss. Landed right in the middle of both lanes on the 2 lane divided highway.

Happy i missed it I expected to see the ranger at least pull over soon. Nope.

So, after a little road rage where I informed him that his rigging skills were sub-par and someone could have been hurt, I questioned his intelligence and the legitimacy of his birth. (Dumb Bastard)

Its not just rocks you have to worry about with the top down. I'm always a little more careful with trailers, cargo, and people walking on bridges while I'm driving under overpasses.

my main fear was getting something in your eye, quick way to go blind. but wrap around glasses it is!
and i had a friend who had his tooth chipped by a rock through his driver side window, so hearing that kinda stuff kinda makes your paro

and i'll be sure to watch out for the mattress and them oh so dangerous burritos! lol
