Top Protectorant: Calif. regulations
I've been to three auto parts houses and one upscale auto botique in my area of the Bay Area. I could not find a fabric guard for my S2K top. While they carried 303 for rubber and vinyl, there was no 303 for tops. At my last stop at a parts house, I was informed that a few months ago, all products with Scotch-guard were pulled off the shelfs for environmental reasons. I went to a S2Ki sponsor with my order. FWIW. dgl1
My sympathy for all you in Cal. having to put up with CARB and the ECOMANIACS. Try the product called Camp Dry. It's specifically made for canvas tents etc. It won't discolor fabric. You can find it at Walmart and Kmart!

I bought a can of scotch guard at my local hardware store last week. I was actually looking for 303, but they didn't have it. I was surprised to see it because I had heard it was being pulled also. Anyway, DeNault's hardware has it in Rancho Santa Margarita.
dgl1....
I bought Porsche top protectant from this site http://www.autopia-carcare.com/autopia/cabriocare.html I have bought several things from them and I have always been happy with thier products and services.
BTW. I know of two other silver/red Stooks in the Danville/San Ramon area. We should start a club!

Autofanatics.com makes a very nice complete kit for convertible top care both vinyl and canvas. They can tell you which you have by car type. It includes cleaning cloths, a brush, top cleaner and protectant (both by Porsche) and plexus. I think it was $59.95 including a duffle bag.

I have to disagree with you on this.
The S2000 top is not like other vinyl tops. Our tops are a woven fabric, yes, probably woven plastic. And like fabrics and unlike typical "vinyl tops" ours do loose their protection over time.
When you say "vinyl top" it suggests the plastic-sheeting tops like those on many cheaper american cars.
I was under the impression that the 303 Fabric Protectant product was not made from scotch guard. It was for sale on their site the last time I looked.
The 303 fabric protectant is recommended by the top manufacturers. I don't see any reason to use the 303 vinyl and rubber protectant (not officially recommended for tops) when the fabric protectant is available.

"I was informed that a few months ago, all products with Scotch-guard were pulled off the shelfs for environmental reasons."
From what I remember the company stopped making them on their own. They said something about not knowing what the long term effects of exposure to the chemicals might be. (I'm sure they probably don't want to know, can you imagine a class action suit where everyone that ever used scotch-guard could get in on it?)
I think they are just selling the rest of what they have so some places would still have some on hand.
