Top slashed - insurance question
Guys,
I had my top slashed about a week ago. I think my insurance company is giving me BS about it. They have no problems with covering the damages, but they are charging me a $300 betterment fee. Now that is $300 on top of my $500 deductible.
Basically, they are saying that my top will be 3 years newer, therefore they are going to charge 10% of the cost of a new top per year, which makes it 30% over 3 years.
Anyone with the similar experiences?
Thanks in advance,
Tim

Hey guys,
I hate to burst your bubble. I worked in insurance for 10 years. Betterment means that the top you are getting is brand new as compared to the top that it replaces regardless of what shape it is in or how old it is.
This is standard practice in the insurance industry. It's most common when replacing tires. When you've used a tire for a certain time and they need to replace it, because of an accident or what have you, you're charged for betterment since the replacement tire will be brand new.
Hope that clears things up.

Check your policy. "Betterment" means improvement, as if in: "My top looks like crap, I want a better looking top"
You did not ask the thugs to vandalize your top and the deductible covers for "risk" and the insurance company knows it.
I never heard of this "betterment" fee in this context, I would fight it.
Cardiac patients don't pay "betterment" fees after they have bypass surgery either...
Cheers,
Daniel

Wouldn't replacing a damaged window be a betterment, since it likely would have at least one pit in it - I think that insurance company is crapola - identify them - is it Geico by any chance - State Farm?
Sounds pretty much like
Who is the Insurance company? We pay the premiums every month but when it comes time to put our insurance to good use they start giving you the
greedy sob's. Hey adjuster person "say hello to my little friend
".

So what you are saying is the insurance company believes his top looked like crap, so the policy holder slashed it to get a new one? They claimed 10% a year, so the top is supposed to last 10 years before needing replacement (it magically disintegrates after that time). I'll run this by Honda and see what they say about it when I get a hole wears through right after the warranty runs out.
