Top Speed Runs...
First of all I would like to say that I think traveling insanely fast on public roads is dumb, especially when there is traffic, but sometimes when you are the only car around for miles, if you crash, you won't kill anyone but yourself.
So, I was coming home on I-5 about a week ago from my friends house, and I found myself on a long stretch of I-5 with zero cars in front of me. (I could maybe see for 2-3 miles down the road.) I had an urge to droop it into 4th and stand on it, but i didn't. I'm not sure why, but something just told me not to do it.
I was just wondering who has topped out their S on a public road, and what were the circumstances. Has anyone ever been traveling at high speed and had a problem? I want to do a high speed run, but I would rather not die.

Once, and will be the only time I will do it. Not often that ideal circumstances allow for you to do this.
It as a cool morning I was cruising on the spreeway top down. Went a good bit before seeing a single car, knowing that once I came over the top of the hill coming up, it was strait and down a rather large/long slope, then steadily back up and over the next hill. I decided that if I saw no one/nothing once I passed the peak I would give it a run to the other side and get back down to legal speeds before crossing the next hill. Cost was clear.
Droped to third, and went. Started to pull noticeably slower ~120/125ish, toped out 5th gear @~151ish on the dash. Stood on it in 6th for a few seconds, pulled really slow/if at all. I'm sure top down and now going slightly uphill did not help. Got back to 70 before cresting, no need for a ridiculous ticket/jail. 150 is also the drag limited speed of a stock s2k. My speedo must be a lil off. This was pre-cai and TI exhaust.
It was loud as hell and definitely an experience. Wind noise at 150mph was alot more then I was expecting. I also will never do it again because the second I finished I realized that the risk vs reward on this one did not line up.

To Uber - top of 5th gear with stock gearing is ~142-143...I've been there a couple times
The couple times I have topped out my S its been at night on roads in the AZ desert that are straight for miles and miles and with out a single light present...no cars, no houses, no nothing...just me...I've gotten to 150, it was fast, very fast...probably won't hit 150 again till I'm SC'd

IMO, nobody should drive at a speed where you feel uncomfortable and not in control. This varies widely with driver experience and conditions, road and weather conditions, traffic patterns, conditions of car, etc. 20 mph could be too fast, and 150 mph could be OK. So far, I have taken it to 135 mph, and it felt fine. It also slows down fast and reliably from there. Note that for the MY04+ fifth gear tops at about 120 mph.
Tonino.
Tonino.
160, thru a toll (sunpass) (the part where its 2 lanes and reciever picks up signal from sunpass box on car)
then had to slow down because my exit was like 3/4 mile ahead
(btw the sunpass didnt register, and i never got a ticket in the mail... so.. speeding thru tolls=free haha)
