Depends on the track, the car is more aerodynamic with the top up so if there are long straights, the top up would be better. You should be wearing a helmet while at the track and as such, can you fit in the car with the top up and helmet on? If not, then top down it is.

There is much more drag with the top down so I seldom run with the top down on the track.

It makes a measurable difference on the front straight at TWS (2 - 5 mph) and a smaller difference on the back straight (1 - 3 mph), but I would guess the top down will slow you in most situations.

Put the top down for parade laps, but put it up if you are trying to get fast laps.

I just love to run with the top down... regardless how it affects my times.

cdelena, what do you top out at on the front straight of TWS?

Anyway, I always track with the top down. The difference in lap time is marginal, esp. at TWS - there's a definite disadvantage trying to haul ass down the banked oval, but the infield is tight and "slow" enough for it to not matter.

Moreover, cooling can also be a problem: Another reason to track top-down (especially in Texas). There's no way in hell you're running with the A/C, and even with the windows down it gets awful hot in the car.

Depends upon the temp.. max about 133 in the winter, 128 or less in the summer.

I bet it is measurable.

It's a hell of a lot hotter sitting out in the sun.
