Totaled S2000 on Craigslist
Hey guys,
I found this car on Craigslist and was wondering why the insurance company would have totaled it if there was no frame damage and all that needed replacing were the bumper, fenders, and suspension. Plus, I think the asking price is pretty high...even though he said he took 20% off, the KBB value is around $12K so I think he's full of it. What do you think?

There is a difference in KBB values and NADA book values, some people post the car a little higher for negotiation reasons. Insurance companies vary on how they go about totaling a car. The parts are expensive for this car and it could be that it was not worth it to them to fix it. I don't know if this is a car you are interested in, if it is do a car-fax check, you should be happy with your purchase and not impulsive. I know if it was me I would have passed it up as soon as I saw that it was in a accident, let alone had suspension damage.
i bought a totalled s2k and the guy told me it was from theft. i KNEW this was crap and the car has been crashed.
a title will read "salvage" if it was related to theft or weather, etc.
if the car was in an accident, it will read totalled.
still, the best thing to do is get the motor checked out by a mechanic because that is the heart of the car. if you can, do a frame tweak check as well. if you are ok with the results, and don't care about a title, go for it.
its probably not an unsaveable car; but i can guarantee you from experience that its going to take a lot of work. still working on restoring mine after a year... but i'm poor so it might not take you that long!!! lol
