Default Touch-up paint :(

I have a MY01 Spa Yellow. It's the real pretty yellow as you know, that has the pearly flakes in it or whatever when it glistens in the sun. Well I got a bottle of Spa Yellow Pearl touch-up paint from the dealership yesterday, and I tried some on a tiny chip I had, and it looks just like a flat yellow and doesn't seem to match. There's no pearl in it or flakes.

Is the flake thing some kind of special after-coating put on after the base spa yellow? The touch-up paint bottle says "SPA YELLOW PEARL"

Did you shake it good enough? That's the only thing that I can see creating the problem.

I would imagine you only use that touch up for miniscule touches, so I dont think theyre going to give you a bottle of high quality spa yellow pearl. How much are you trying to "touch-up"??

About an inch in diameter that has peeled off to the metal and is cracking which could lead to further peeling if it's messed with.

I've seen something similar with my accord. I got touchup paint from a honda dealership using the paint code on the door jam. And the sparkly bits were white in color, whereas the original paint had blueish sparkly bits.

The Silverstone touch up paint is pretty bad as well. Doesn't match at all, no matter how much you shake it up, but then again it's "touch up", so it's probably implied that using it on anything bigger isn't going to turn out that great.

had the same problem with my wife's '04 TSX ... the Nighthawk Black has a blue undertone to it, but the touchup paint is a lot more blue. Even spotting it in small rock chips really shows up.

Yep I think I'm just going to say screw the touch-up paint since it doesn't match and have the flakes in it, and instead maybe save up to get a full repaint with the correct color. It seems the only way to go if you have any sort of decent sized chips that needs correcting.
