BTW-i wouldn't do the 48 months on the S... why be on the hook for 12 months of risk with out-of warranty repairs.

I would think the S would be more than the RX8 over 3 years, why are you considering 1 car for 3 and the other for 4?
Sounds like you like a coupe more than a convert that's fine. If you can't live with a 2 seater than don't, it's your choice.
I had an RX8 and returned it, it got boring after 2 months as it was just like any other car / sedan really. At first it inspired then it wore off, the drop top saves the S
As far as clutch feel the RX8 is hella softer than the S2000, shifters are both excellent I like the S's more but it's close. My S definetely has more kick than the RX8, I drove both back to back one day and it was no contest, the VTEC kick is killer compared to the smooth pull of the rotary.
Colour shouldn't be an issue, order whatever you want!

As has already been mentioned, it sounds to me like you've made up your mind, but want us to talk you to the other for some reason. You obviously have a visceral pull toward the RX8, but here you come to an s2k board to ask which to get.
Sounds to me like there is some underlying issue that makes you want to like the s2k more even though you don't. Financial issue? Drop top?
Did you drive the s2k to its full potential, or did you keep it under vtec due to break in? It'll probably be hard to find a used '04 that you can test drive to really get a feel for the car, but I think that you need to experience the s2k for all its worth before you make up your mind.
Can you pinpoint what exactly was "magical" about the RX8? Might help determine if that issue is something that can be compared between the two or not.

Way to go Barry! I agree- if it's over 40 deg., and water isn't actually falling from the sky, my top is down too.
One thing to consider with respect to the RX-8 and the S2000. Though the 8 is far more practical, keep in mind that you will go through a LOT more gasoline. A friend of mine at work bought an 8 late last year, and driving very conservatively (he's never pushed it above 6k rpm), he's getting 16-18 mpg on a regular basis. I usually get around 23 mpg, and hardly ever drive it without reaching redline in the first two (if not three) gears.
Food for thought.
