Default Towing

This is probably a stupid question, but I was wondering if an S2000 could tow a jet ski? Anyone tried it? How did it go? Thanks in advance.

Anti Flaming Disclaimer:
1. I tried searching, but it's broken.
2. I know towing a jet ski will put additional stress on the car; I'm just curious as to the possiblity and how the car handled the task.

Don't do it!

You'd probably roll back into the water anyways...

How heavy is the jet ski and trailer? I pull an autocross tire trailer that weighs 550lbs. I've put a couple thousand miles on it without any problems.

Today I spotted a Miata towing a small catamaran at 70mph on the New York State Thruway.

Honda's website lists their current models between 700 and 800 pounds. I suppose you could add another 100-200 pounds for gas and trailer.

shouldnt be a problem. As long as the hitch is attached properly to the frame. The frame on the S is pretty rigid (for a convertible). You would have to shift a lot, though, to keep the torque up. Probably would have to cruise on highway in 5th.

Had no problem towing one in my Protege5, and that had less torque and HP.

I think you people are forgetting that the launch dock can be covered in slime and manual RWD vehicles have a tendancy to slide back into the water. Also the load capacity on the S2000 is 400 lbs, including the occupants...

I thought towing is either not recommended or verboten. Am I wrong here?

I towed a big jetski (1100 3 seater) with a Prelude for a few summers. It was Honda rated for 1000 lbs with wiring already near the tailight. No ill effects to speak of. The bumper would sometimes touch the water in order to launch. On really shallow ramps, I would unhook the trailer and attach a 6-7 ft chain for launching.

Of the ~400 lb S2000 load rating (conservative), you only need to consider the tongue weight which should be 10% of trailer/jet ski weight.

Given our short wheelbase and low weight, emergency handling or stopping might be dangerous with a heavy trailer. Our stock tires would slip all over the ramp as well. All-seasons might work better, but don't quote me on that.
