Towing
Hello. I found a huge nail right in the middle of my passenger side rear this morning. It was to flat to drive to a tire shop near my house. So I am waiting for my P-Zero Neros M&S to come in. When getting our cars towed do we need to have a flat bed truck since it is rear weel drive? Also, is our car a safe car to drive on a patched tire that is half way through the tread life or should I just do the new one. Should I also change the other tire that has the same number of miles? I am exchanging the tire with the exact same type.
I thought I had to. I thought it would tear up the rear end if i did not use one. I will make sure to request one when I call. Do I need to take out that toe hook cover for them to get it up on the truck? Is that the best way to have them do it? Is that just a case of popping it out and then popping it back on once they toe it? I just dont want to screw anything up.
Half tread life on the tire? Middle of tread? I'd have it repaired and rebalanced. I wouldn't even think twice about the safety factor. I've personally plugged a half dozen tires with an autoparts store repair kit with no ill effect.
I imagine with the M+S tires you are not tracking the car either....

Yeah, I'd just take the tire to a repair shop by itself and have it plugged. Or go to walmart and buy one of those gooey worm kits for like $5 and do it yourself. No tow fees and you probably save in a few other places.
If you're going to tow it though, definitely get a flatbed.

Im not real car knowledgable and im not real confident in my ability to take the wheel off the car to take it somewhere. The towing is free for insurance and I have next week off for spring break so its not a big hastle. i appreciate the input. I will probably just save the new tire for a later replacement and drive on the repaired tire for now.
I always request a flatbed for all of my cars. Most are too low, but basically I just don't trust anything else. Just make sure the jackass connects the chains/straps to an appropriate location.
