Default Track Ready?

i just got new tires but im not sure about my brakes.

i got plenty in the back but the front is worn to around 50 percent left.

are the oem pads still good for track and then maybe a couple thousand more miles until i can get them replaced? or should i get new pads.

also my car has 34k on it. the rotors still in good condition?

im excited about my first track event and one came up kind of quick.

thanks.

What tires and what size?

If you have never been to a track day and are not overly aggressive then there is a chance your front oem pads will last the day. I would bring a fresh set of oem pads with you to the track just in case.

If you are aggressive or have track/AX experience then buy a set of race pads and install them before you go to the track. Bed them if needed. swap them out for your oem pads afterwards.

Your rotors should be fine.

If you use oem pads there is a good chance you will over heat them. That will likely result in the rotors feeling like they are warped. They are not warped!
Get a set of race pads and install them. Bring them up to temp and use them for a little while. That will clean off the burned on oem pad material and they will no longer be warped.

You will DEFINITELY want to flush your brake fluid with new DOT 4 fluid. ATE Super Blue or similar is recommended. Do not go out there with oem fluid.

good advice by davepk

just make sure you are running in good condition before hitting the track.

change the motor fluid before and after the hyde.

flush the brake

put a piece of yellow/red tape in the 12 o clock position of the steering wheel(optional)

buy a pair of flexible shoes(optional)

oh, make sure the melon shell is rated for the track, you'll be piss to show up and not able to run because your ancient motocycle helmet is not good enough

remind clam and try not to drive too fast, you'll end up overwork the tires and brake and not going any faster anyway.

im running 215 / 255 enssenza 210 Rs.

they are pretty much new. (got them real recently)

guess ill go buy some axxis ultimates.

as for brake fluid. would valvoline dot 3 work? or is dot 4 strongly reccomended.

also what about clutch fluid can i keep that oem?

motor oil was changed maybe almost a 1000 miles ago.

shoes...check haha

and my friend last time went to the track (same sponsor) and they didnt check is helmet. or they wil allow u to run a few events with an M class helmet. which i have. no worries though plans for a full face SA rated helmet are in the near future.

thanks for replies so far.

Valvoline makes a high temp dot 4 that i've used in the past and is readily available.
Dont use a DOT3.

Never heard of Essenza but 215 255 sounds like it should be a good stagger though i could not find any specs for the tires.

Clutch fluid should be fine.

Only thing you really need to do for willow springs, assuming you maintain your regular maintenance:

- check tire pressure
- check oil level
- make sure you have at least 5mm of brake pad remaining (about 50%)
- bring a helmet
- make sure the car works
- change brake fluid to a dot 4. I use ate super blue and like it a lot

oem rotors and pads are perfectly fine.
