I'm planning on moving out to the Bay Area (Cali.) after graduating in June (CS Degree), and possibly trading in my 2000 GS-R for an S2K.

A few of my concerns are... the blind spots when the top is up... the plastic rear window... the lack of cargo/passenger space... and the quality of the sound that you get from the stereo (2 speakers?). Do you guys have any comments on this? And, any suggestions on how I should go about trying to get an S2k for MSRP? Hmm... the increased insurance costs might be a problem also.

My GS-R would definitely be much more practical... but I would LOVE to have an S2000. My other option would be to go FI with a JRSC in my GS-R... which would make it pretty damn fast... but I'd still be missing a lot... most notably the class of that car.....

Just wondering what everyone on this board thinks. I'm having a hell of a time deciding, especially since I love my car... and have put quite a bit of work into it already.

I had a GSR, and now drive an S2000.
Make the change! Its a different drive, different feel.

The car is everything I loved about the GSR, but times 10.

Why not buy the S2K out here and drive it out to California. That would be my plan.

I would trade in an Integra GSR for an S in a heart beat.

However, since you are moving to the bay area I would suggest you hang on to your GSR. I lived in Santa Clara for 6 months and that was 5 months too long IMO.
I had the good fortune of being able to move back to Texas and stay with the same company. The best part was that I got to keep my California salary, which turned out to be a huge increase.

Almost everything in the bay area is expensive.

Premium Gas: over $2.00
State Taxes: not in Texas.
Living Accomodations: $1200.00 for a small 1-1 in a half way decent neighborhood.
Traffic: Serious pain in the a$$.
Things to do: Lots!!
Weather: You pay for the gorgeous weather!

It is definitely convertible weather. I sold my Civic EX for a Del Sol VTEC just because of the weather. Plus being a new grad myself at the time I wanted something better so I understand. My suggestion to you would be to wait it out a few months before you make the plunge. Also, if you are making more then $70,000 with your starting new job then you can afford it. I have a BSEE and did not make that much going out there. You may be one of the lucky ones.

Good Luck.

two dif. cars..well in a sense at least..with the gsr you obviously have more of what your concerns were..(cargo space , seats etc etc) but with the s2k all i can say is Wow..that thing drives like a beauty..plus with you moving out to cali, when are you ever gonna have the top up anyway??..the blind spot is HUGe with the top up but you get used to it after awhile..it's not so bad as it used to be..get the s2k!..

Hey Meat...

If I could keep my GS-R... that'd be AWESOME. But alas, I'm going to need to trade it in to really be able to afford the S2K.

Guess I'll really have to sit in/drive one to know what I really want to do. But it seems like I'm leaning towards getting an S2k right now anyway.. silver/black or black/black....

I guess I'll get used to the blind spot and the small interior... and I can always get an aftermarket stereo and custom fit a sub somewhere in the car (anyone do this yet??)

Bah Humbug! You'll never drive with the top up anyways in this area...at least I don't!

But seriously, full disclosure...the S2k is a great car as a second car, but a little more difficult as an only car if
1-you have to carry more than 1 person (id rather not),
2-have top carry lots of stuff (see above)
3-dont have parking for it (see greg stevens' post of his baby in the snow...not that exact problem here, but you catch the drift)
You will benefit from-
1-looks, looks and more looks
2-power speed and some awesome driving
3-your car will be like therapy and traffic is not nearly as bad in the s2k.
thats my 22cents worth. I'd drive the GSR out and then find a S2k though, easier on the drive out. good luck!

hey CKim,

yep, you've obviously got some valid concerns going into a non-practical 2-seater. but as yu888 mentioned, you'll never, ever drive with the top up here in the SF Bay Area. that is, unless you make her your only means of transportation. then, maybe you'll put the top up 10% of the time all year round.

otherwise, S2000 all the way! don't even look back at your decision!
