Default Trading ap2 in

Wassup y’all has anyone ever traded a ap2 for an ap1? I’m thinking of trading my 60k mile Suzuka blue ap2 in for a yellow ap1 whenever the opportunity presents itself, but want to be prepared for if I have to add cash on top.

I've had a 2004 AP2 and now have an 2000 AP1.

AP1 pros:
- Sharper handling (faster steering, thicker sway bars).
- More thrilling engine.

AP2 pros:
- Smoother gearbox, particularly when cold.
- Somewhat usable audio system (AP1 is pretty much useless).
- Torquier low down.

Personally, as a weekend toy, I prefer the AP1. But if I had a mint AP2 I wouldn't take the risk of trading it for an AP1.

Everyone knows the RPM stuff, so I'm not going to comment on that, I've had them both, and am in the middle of a K24A swap as we speak to my AP1. So that's my opinion...

But to add help to your deciding on AP1 v Ap2, What year is your AP2? If it is a 2004-05 then it's the sweet spot for the AP2 still a cable throttle vs 2006-09 is DBW (drive by wire) Motorized throttle plate activated by ecu, which is not as linear of an input / engagement.
2004-05 is also the only Ap2's with no VSA / Traction control. Less nannies equals more pure driving experience, "experience also needed" Another reason the torquier AP2 in the 2004-05 range is a nice car.

If you have the 2006-09 AP2 you can easily add a tune to the car via Hondata Flashpro which is nice, change Vtec corssover point to a lower variable rpms based on load, and it's a really nice daily! (I had one) .

If you just want to experience the revs I can't disagree. My k24A is going to rev to 8500. The in between of the two. High revs and low to mid range torque, makes the decision K24A for me. ***HOWEVER, you will hurt that value of ANY S2000 you do his do.****

Since Value Always matters.... to most... (or you have a salvage title already from theft recovery), or you had a very high mileage example vehicle, then it's easier to make that Kswap decision, ****I would not suggest this for your suzuka AP2 at 60K - ish miles.**** BUT you could sell for a bad motor car and do a swap?

I didn't do this, but I recently test drove an AP2 and AP1, and chose to buy the AP1.

I found the AP2 a little too watered down for what I was seeking.

The AP2 was fun to drive; I find myself involuntarily laughing out loud every time I take my AP1 for a drive.

Get the newest/best condition one that you can afford. If you want to "ball on a budget" then get an AP1

Drive an AP1 first and then decide. Don’t do it on theory. If you already have then go for it!

as with any s2000 I would drive both aggressively and then figure out what suits you more.

Just seeing this but my AP2 is an 04 with a clean title. i personally like the yellow color better as ive seen it in person, and the AP1 seems more fun to drive (not to say the AP2 isnt tho). But is the value of an AP2 more or less than an AP1 of the same mileage?

So you have the sweet spot already IMHO in the 2004-05.

Only way to know if you want an AP1 vs AP2 is to drive one on the same 20-40 min. back road AP1 then AP2 right after.

Everyone has their favorite, but you are looking for something more than what you got. That is relative to what you have, I'm guessing you are looking for the revs and a quicker steering rack ratio.

You can always mod yours and make it the way you want it. For the exception of the 9k rev limit.

yea that and the fact that the styling on the ap1s appeals to me more suprisingly. i took one for a test drive near me recently and i dot know if it was normal, but everytime i shifted the car would stutter and slow down. Is that normal for the Ap1s? It was an 01.
