Default Trading in your S2000

Which dealership gives you the most?

Carmax, honda dealership, family owned dealership?

What kind of prices are people getting for trading their vehicles in?
- i have a 01 silverstone with 59k miles, clean title

How much off from KBB trade in prices are you getting?

More so depends on what particular car your trading in for.

Definitely shop your trade around and examine what kinds of cars the dealership sells on their used car lot. Around here in MI, many domestic dealerships would value a S2K poorly because they would only send it to auction except for a short time in the spring / summer (foreign convertible). A dealership that sells a lot of sporty cars is going to value your car more highly because they can make money on it.

Last year, I needed to sell an almost new Lexus GS350 because of comfort issues and an older Lexus LX470 (hidden corrosion issues) and buy a Ridgeline. (Hasty & very bad purchase decisions on my part.) With about $60K in vehicles, I wasn't getting bites from private parties and independent Honda dealers were offering me very low trade values. I did some research and found a medium sized dealership chain that had premium brand stores, a Honda store, and a specialized premium used car store. They gave me what I wanted for the vehicles along with a good discount on the Ridgeline. They sold the LX within a month and made about $2K on it. However, they had the GS for at least 4 months (and someone was driving it as the mileage kept rising) and they lost at least $5K on the car.

craigslist will get you a diverse market of buyers, 2/3 of which are total tire kicking shart-darts

Don't forget the sales tax factor.

Around here at least, you pay sales tax on the difference between the trade in and the new vehicle cost, which in effect inflates the value of the trade in by 7%.

In addition, the dealer can adjust the trade value( within limits) to decrease your out of pocket on the final deal.

If you trade in, my opinion is you'll get your best deal from a Honda dealer as they can possibly certify and get inquiries for s2000s.( Dealer where I bought mine called wanting to make a deal)

Trading your car can be a real time and headache saver, depends on how much your time is worth... Anyway the dealer with the most room in the car he's selling you is going to show you the most for your car. He'll blow hot smoke up your ass and make you feel good about your trade value because that's what's important to you, meanwhile making a ripper on the car you buy....The guy who shows you KBB trade in -detail -shop inspection -repairs&reconditioning isn't making money on the car you choose....

NADA says Clean Trade In: $ 9,750.00 and Private Party Value: $12,100.00, could you do with the extra $ 2,300.00?? Trade in is not the best thing to do imo
