Default Transmission Gets Hot

I have noticed lately that my transmission has been getting really hot after driving in stop and go traffic. It's hot to the point where I can feel the heat through the center console if I put my hand on it. I can also feel it if I put my hand in the cup holder. Is this normal? I have also noticed that my shift knob get really warm as well.

I changed my transmission fluids at 30k miles. I am now at 45k miles so don't think that would be the problem. The fluids were changed about 3 years ago (I know I only put 15k miles in 3 years...)

ive noticed the same thing on my car since day one. i dont think there is any issue with it. for peace of mind, you could change the fluid. its pretty easy to do, and not too expensive.

Sounds like the catalytic convertor is getting hot, not the transmission. Have you noticed loss of power? sign of the cat getting plugged...the cat runs sort of close to the transmission, btw.

3000 miles in 2 days...hmmm

1500 miles a day = 62.5 mph for 24 hours straight ....

On topic, transmission area does get mighty warm at times

I mean, if you average 82mph, then you've got 6hrs of stops/sleep. (Still doesn't seem highly likely).
