Default Transmission Tunnel really warm ...

Do you guys realize that the right side (passenger side for most of you) of the transmission tunnel gets EXTREMELY warm? Especially down low by the weird looking hump

I have a RHD, and I realize that the hump gets quite warm ... also, the interior (particularly the shift knob) gets really hot after I park the car for a while (indoors) ... seems like it was the heat that came up from the transmission or something.

Yup it does. Inside the cupholder too. Thanks Honda for the OEM Coffee Warmer.

Well, mine actually had a problem shortly after I purchased my car. I had a set of extra keys on the floor of the passenger footwell, near the tunnel.

After I parked and picked up the keys, I dropped them immediately because they were burning hot! I felt around the tunnel, and something was definitely wrong. Got out of the car, and it was VERY hot near the car. Took it to the dealer, but they of course could not replicate it. Anyway, a week or so later, I realized that it was my rear brake (handbrake) not fully releasing when I released the handbrake. The brakes were dragging on the car while I was driving. Brought it back to Honda again, but they didn't see anything wrong with it again.

Now I rarely use the handbrake, and usually park it in gear. If I absolutely must use the handbrake, I will play with it a few times releaseing and setting it to "loosen" it up. Never had a problem since, but it's a little annoying sometimes.

its the standard cup warmer... its warms your cold pepsi especially on a hot day when you need it. there is nothing wrong with your car... however in the winter time i almost took it into the dealer as my cup holder wan't getting warm, i thought something was surely broken

Okay ... cool ...

I thought my transmission fluid was messed up or something, and overheating easily ...

Cuz I don't recall having a warm cupholder before, since I rarely park the car and come back within 1 or 2 hours on my previous S (it was purely a weekend car that I drive out, and back home). Then comes my second one, and I drive it to shopping malls, etc. And all of a sudden realize the car is so hawt!!!!! It's not hot when I drive it ... so never noticed before

that's not something i would tolerate.

could you try a different dealer? or maybe a local mechanic you trust to actually get to the bottom of the problem.

You ever notice the catalytic convertor is directly under the hump in the floor

Catalytic converter? What's that?

Shift knob getting warm is to be expected with any type of metal knob on these cars, as the shifter plugs right into the top of the transmission, no lame slop-inducing linkages or cables here.

My Mustang was the same way. I had an all aluminum shift knob and a short throw shifter on it (all billet, no rubber dampers/isolators or anything). On a hot summer day after being parked, the shift knob would be burning hot....I shifted with the boot for a minute till it cooled off
